Fridge / Monthly Girls' Nozaki-kun

Go To

  • In episode 2, Sakura thinks to herself that she only became friends with Seo because they sat next to each other in class. "SAkura" and "SEo" are, in fact, right next to each other in A-I-U-E-O order, which is how Japanese high school seating charts are organized.
  • Nozaki's inclusion of characters based on Wakamatsu and Seo in his manga meant that, in the story, Wakamatsu and Seo's relationship became a more prominent aspect of Monthly Girls' Nozaki-Kun.
  • In Chapter 52, the Nozaki mistakenly assumes the player character of the game he's playing is a girl based on their speech patterns on the name entry screen, and is shocked when it turns out they're actually a fifty year old man. At the end of the game, it's revealed the player character was actually the Kitsune possessing the old man. The "feminine" speech that tripped up Nozaki was just old fashioned. (It's also possible that the kitsune was female, but this seems less likely since it sounds like the kitsune is the one sad about having to leave his wife Mamiko.)
  • Several jokes throughout the series have been at the expense of Let's Fall In Love, which is repeatedly referred to as a massive Cliché Storm. But if Let's Love is so unoriginal, why is it popular enough to remain in serialization? The answer is given at the end of Chapter 42: In his desperation to make sure he doesn't accidentally create a character similar to another author's, Nozaki deliberately creates a character with absolutely nothing in common with what's popular. When he's finished, he realizes he's just made Suzuki again. Suzuki, the main hero of the series. There IS something unique about Let's Love, and it's the most important thing for a shoujo manga: the love interest.
    • Going even further, the traits Nozaki picks when making his "new" character include "refreshing" instead of "stoic", "safe" instead of "dangerous", and whatever the alternatives to something starting with "prob-" (Problematic? Problem-causing?) and something starting with "coc-" (Probably "cocky") are. What sets Let's Fall In Love apart from other shoujo manga is being extremely soft and fluffy, which would explain why most of the real, devoted fans we've seen (Wakamatsu, Rei) are young even by shoujo fan standards and have no real world experience with the opposite sex.
  • Wakamatsu's official character profile states that his type is "younger girls with cute personalities", which is pretty much the opposite of Seo, who is a year above him and, well, is Seo. However, a major breakthrough in their relationship comes when Nozaki explains Seo to him by comparing her to a flustered child who doesn't know how to handle their first crush, or in other words, pointing out she's acting like a younger girl with a cute personality.
