On top of leading the protagonists through a wild goose chase ultimately leading back to Industrial 7, the La+ Program's choice of "checkpoints" isn't merely a case of call backs to various points in the Universal Century. They all represent some pivotal point in history which reflect the worst in humanity, whether it's the Laplace ruins representing the failed promises of the UC Calendar itself ,or Torrington being both close to where Operation British culminated and where the the seeds of Operation Stardust were laid. Anyone linked with the program at those areas would have almost certainly sensed not just the historical significance but the empathic horror of what transpired. For them to power on through would thus reflect their strength of will as well as their identity as true Newtypes, further underscoring the program's intended purpose.
