Fridge Brilliance
- The Abbott Teachers have a habit of walking out of their classrooms to shoot the breeze with each other. For many schools, teachers are unable to leave their students unless they appoint a licensed adult to watch over them while they're away. But then you realize that the kids are never alone because the Documentary crew, whom Ava has granted full permission to be in Abbott, is still inside with them when their teachers step out.
Fridge Horror
- Janine is often made fun of for being short for her age and how she can pass off for a child. While this is normally Played for Laughs, it's worth mentioning that growth delay is actually a symptom of someone who suffered child abuse. The ongoing stress of dealing with her Abusive Parents while taking care of herself must have impacted Janine's natural size.
- In "Teacher Appreciation", Ava makes a jab at how her taller sister Ayesha looks like what Janine should look like. In the same episode, it's explained that Ayesha ran away from home to live her own life. So while Janine struggled to deal with her Family Drama which impacted her health, her sister was able to avoid further abuse which allowed her to reach her appropriate height.
- In "Librarian", Janine has extreme difficulty with standing up to Barbara over her petty opinions involving the new librarian. On one hand, the reason for this is because of how much she idolizes Barbara for all she's done throughout her teaching career and how she looks up to her as her "work mom". But on the other hand, Janine has never had ongoing experience in being defiant or standing up against her true mother Vanetta out of fear of incurring her wrath or manipulations.
