Deaths

Evan Lewis
  • In the opening credits, an exacto knife was pointing at a picture of Kimberly's right eye. Evan gets impaled in the right eye by an escape ladder.
  • The song playing on his boombox is "Vitamin" by Incubus which references eyes multiple times.
  • Evan gets stuck in his car while burning alive in Kimberly's premonition which relates to his hand getting stuck in the sink while his apartment is in a raging inferno.
  • The fridge magnets on Evan's refrigerator which spells "HEY E" have the H falling off, leaving only the word "EYE" in addition to the letter looking like part of a ladder. This foreshadows the fire escape ladder that would fall on Evan's eye.
  • The brand of mozzarella sticks on the box that Evan was cooking was called "Surefire Snacks" which later burns and catches on fire.
  • One of the items Evan bought is an Apple "iMac" where the "I" is pronounced "eye".
  • While Evan is carrying his purchased items to his apartment, he accidentally steps on a doll that is missing an eye. He would soon be missing an eye once impaled on a falling ladder.
  • Evan was about to walk under the escape ladder before he died which is a common superstition said to bring bad luck taken a step further when the ladder caused his death.
  • His face was disfigured while burning alive in the premonition death. A different face disfigurement happens in his real death when his eye gets impaled by a ladder.
  • Evan's car has a phoenix design on its hood and also has a phoenix sticker on his apartment door. This not only refers to him burning alive in his car in the pile-up but also the house fire he carelessly started. However, the bird is also associated with the mythology of rebirth which becomes a major plot point that new life can help save the remaining survivors from Death's list.

Tim Carpenter

  • The song "Rocky Mountain High" by John Denver can be heard barely in the dentist's room. This was the Leitmotif of the first film to signify foreboding death.
  • Tim's dentist tells him, "Your mom says you've been having some pain lately?" He would later be crushed to death by a falling pane (pain) of glass.
  • In the dentist's room, Tim sits in a chair with a small, square mirror hanging over him. Similar to the glass pane dangling over him that would later end his life.
  • A pigeon banged on the window of the dentist's office during Tim's appointment as well as another breaking through into the window of the waiting. There are two superstitions that when a bird hits your window then somebody you know is going to die while a bird inside a building means someone in the building will die. The window is also a key element in Tim's death since a glass window pane fell on top of him.
  • Tim is standing in the intersection of tiles, making it look like an "X" and implicating that he is the target.
  • A sign reading "CAUTION" is seen before his death.

Nora Carpenter

  • Nora told Kimberly that, after her husband and son died, she was okay with accepting death. Ironically enough, right before she is decapitated, she can be heard screaming "I don't wanna die".
  • When Rory takes the elevator up to Burke's apartment, "Rocky Mountain High" is playing as elevator music. Like mother, like son as the very elevator would later claim Norah's life.
  • Nora told Kimberly she had a funeral (Tim's) to plan before she left her apartment. Too bad it's one she'll be having just moments later.
  • Nora tells Tim "Some people need 're-wiring'". She was later killed by a malfunctioning elevator due to faulty wiring.
  • Eugene told Kimberly his head didn't release after morning. The same goes for Norah's when caught in the elevator.
  • The elevator that got Rory's shoe stuck in between the doors foreshadows how it would get Nora's head stuck in a similar death grip.
  • In Kimberly's premonition, she cannot stop her car because there is a water bottle blocking access to the brakes. The car pedal crushing the head of the bottle is reminiscent of Nora's decapitation.

Kat Jennings

  • In the opening credits, a pencil points at the back of Kimberly's head on the photo hinting someone was going to be impaled in the back of the head.
  • When Rory was talking about how he was uncomfortable sitting next to the person who is going to die, he whispers "hopefully her" while pointing to Kat. The very next scene showcases Kat's death.
  • After pulling Brian Gibbons out of the way of an incoming news van, Rory tells him to "use his head." Something Kat would do when her head is forcibly slammed into a broken pipe by a faulty airbag cushion.

Rory Peters

  • Before Nora Carpenter's death, Rory saw a shadow of a man carrying hooks. However, the shadow was also between the coat hangers' shadows, making it look like it was cut in pieces.
  • An article of clothing near Kimberly's bed has a line pattern resembling barbed wire.
  • While the group was driving Isabella Hudson, the road was lined with visible fences. Rory was killed when a section of
  • Rory asks Kimberly if it will hurt when he dies but unsure of the answer, she replies "I don't know". As such, he dies in an excruciating manner.
  • He saved Brian Gibbons from being run over by a news van. This van later exploded which caused his death.
  • Rory mentions that he would stop doing drugs if he were to be killed. Guess what happens to him?

Eugene Dix

  • In Burke's apartment, Eugene snaps at Clear Rivers "If Death is after you, why don't you just stay the hell away from us?" Their fates are sealed when Clear enters Eugene's hospital and sets off the explosion that kills them both.

Clear Rivers

  • Kimberly told Clear, "In my opinion, you're already dead." which becomes true by the end of the movie.
  • As Evan Lewis climbs out of his apartment, the fire escape portion he is on looks like a seven with an explosion over it. This foreshadows Clear's fate as the seventh survivor of Flight 180 and the seventh to die in this film.
  • Route 23 shares the same number as Clear's seat number in the Flight 180 seating configuration, hinting at her later introduction in the sequel.
  • Every time Clear gets foreboding omens, it always has something to do with fire or explosions:
    • The mortician tells Clear that she has such a fire in her.
    • She previously hit a teen for smoking at a gas station.
    • Clear saw someone drop a tank of propane.
  • She nearly avoids being killed in Thomas Burke's apartment when a canoeing boat swings into her path and it goes out the window. This parallels her actual death when her burnt body is thrown back by an explosion and hits the camera just like the canoe.

Thomas Burke

  • His premonition death involves being obliterated by an oncoming log that went straight through his police vehicle. His imminent death wouldn't be until the next film where he was caught in a woodchipper that's designed to shred logs.

Isabella Hudson

  • At first it was never confirmed if Isabella died in Kimberly's premonition given her van skidded on the road, not crashed, run over, and/or exploded like the other survivors, before cutting to the next scene. Kimberly later received a vision that Isabella survived the whole ordeal unscathed having completely avoided the pile-up.
