Fanfic / Vigilantism of Olympic Proportions

Go To

Vigilantism of Olympic Proportions is a My Hero Academia fanfic written by 3AMFanFicQueen that presents an alternative universe wherein Class 1-A starts off as a vigilante group called the Pantheon operating underground before being found by Eraserhead and the other staff at U.A.

This fanfic provides examples of:

  • Adapted Out: Mineta is not part of Class 1-A in this fic, being replaced by Shinsou.
  • Adaptational Angst Upgrade: Each member of the Pantheon had worse backstories than their canon counterparts. Some are orphans, some are casted out rejects, many had abusive or neglectful families, and all are runaways. Some of them have been living on the streets for years.
    • Bakugo, Hagakure, Midoriya, and Sato lost their parents.
    • Kirishima was turned into his family's literal punching bag after he got his Quirk.
    • Ashido, Koda, Ojiro, Shoji, and Tokoyami were neglected by their families due to their appearances.
    • Hitoshi was forced to wear a muzzle so he could not speak.
    • Momo was purposefully underfed by her parents even though her Quirk requirements made that dangerous - she's implied to have an eating disorder she's still battling.
    • Tenya's parents were Married to the Job, and Tensei was pretty much his only caretaker. When Tensei died, Tenya's parents never tried to step in.
    • Asui was neglected in favor of her younger siblings.
    • Aoyama and Kaminari were kicked out by their families because of their Quirk.
    • Jiro left because her parents were pressuring her into the music business.
    • Ochako left her parents because she hoped it would allow them to recover from their struggling finances.
  • Adaptational Badass: The Pantheon has had years to hone their fighting skills as vigilantes before entering U.A., even assisting in defeating the attackers at the USJ.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Rather than entering U.A. as mostly strangers, 1-A has been living, working, and fighting together for years before the fic starts.
    • Izuku and Katsuki in particular are especially notable as their canon relationship started extremely toxic while here, years of living on the streets as orphans together made for a far different and healthier dynamic. Even before, it seems like Katsuki never began his path towards the bully he was when canon began.
    • Toru Hagakure and Rikido Sato are cousins.
  • Blackmail: Izuku does this to Endeavor, threatening to air up all of his dirty secrets (which is implied to include how his actions killed Izuku's mother and Katsuki's parents) if he attempts to approach Shoto.
  • Code Emergency: For the Pantheon, 333 indicates a need for help. Tenya sends this to Izuku when he fights Stain.
  • Death by Adaptation:
    • As part of the backstory, Inko and Katsuki's parents die in the aftermath of a villain attack (and the implication that Endeavor may have had a role in it).
    • Stain killed Tensei in the backstory as well.
  • Expecting Someone Taller: Considering that the Pantheon's disguises hide their appearances and identities and they're highly skilled at combat, people are surprised to find out that they're no older than 15 when the masks come off.
  • Family of Choice: The Pantheon treat each other as family, especially considering most of the members either have no family or are running away from abusive or neglectful households.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Izuku attempts one during his fight with Shigaraki, but he manages to come out alive.
    • Downplayed with Ochako, who decided that the best way she could help her parents was by living on the streets.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Shouto still completely freezes Sero in an iceberg during the Sports Festival.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: All of the Pantheon's codenames come from Greek deities and mythological figures.
  • The Runaway: All of the Pantheon's members start off as this, either because they're orphaned, abused, or neglected.
  • Wham Line: Chapter 30 ends with Shouto and Kendo's match being interrupted by the "temperature of the arena spik[ing]" and someone yelling out Shouto's name, indicating Endevour's presence.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Izuku gives All Might one when the hero tries to have Izuku leave 1-A due to his Quirklessness and brings up Izuku's injuries at the USJ, despite the fact that Izuku has been a vigilante for years and that the reason Izuku was injured was because All Might wasn't there.
Izuku: “Yeah, you’re right, I nearly did die at the USJ because you weren’t there. And the injuries I got? They were from a quirk that could kill anyone. Quirked or no. Not to mention, I went down swinging, and stabbed Shigaraki as I fell. I actually fought at the USJ, All Might. And where were you? Let me put this into perspective for you, Toshinori. I have spent the last 11 years of my life being told that I won’t amount to a damn thing because I can’t use telekinesis, and I’m not belching fire. But you want to know what I did? I kept fighting. I created one of the most intricate and respected vigilante organizations of all time. I kept 20 preteens alive, safe, and fed, when all we had to our names was an abandoned warehouse. I got all 20 of those kids a chance in the UA Hero Course. I did every last bit of this with not a quirk to my name, and I will be damned, before I take your advice. And if your teaching is filtered through this much prejudice? Then it may be time to hang up that cape. Because it sure as hell is not heroic."
