Abe (all incarnations)
(Soulstorm)
The main protagonist of both the games and the fanfictions. A former slave Mudokon who escaped Rupture Farms after discovering Mullock's plans to turn the Mudokon workforce into processed meat snacks, Abe is now forced into the position as the saviour of his race, whether he likes it or not, and must journey to Nolybab to save Sam, the mother of all Mudokons from the farms.
- Almighty Janitor: When he was a slave in Rupturefarms.
- Big Brother Instinct: He's extremely protective of his brothers from Rupturefarms and his other followers from Soulstorm Brewery/Necrum Mines/Feeco Depot/any other factory he's been to, and just the mere thought of them being in danger or when Abe is separated from them and doesn't know where they are drives him into a deep state of anxiety.
- Covered in Mud: In Oddworld: Stranded (one of my unfinished fanfics that takes place after Soulstorm), Abe falls into a pit of knee-deep mud at one point when he's lost in the jungle, a pit that's filled with Fleeches that avoid Abe due to his body being completely covered in mud and smelling horrible. Alta later gives him a bath in her hideout when she finds him.
- Heroic B.S.O.D:
- Mind-Control Eyes: When under the control of a Merdokon, Abe’s eyes turn a milky blue.
(Fantasy AU)
A gentle, kind-hearted yet nervous young Mudokon boy who escapes the prison he was born in with his mother before she's killed, leaving this version of Abe all alone in the world even after he's found and taken to a city where he has a safe but otherwise very lonely childhood.
- Break the Cutie: Abe has countless hardships and moments of grief, fear, agony and guilt thrown his way, starting from the death of his mother during his childhood after escaping from the underground prison he was born in and going further into his adulthood when his childhood home is destroyed in a raid which he and his father barely survive and Bea loses her life in, further driving Abe into a Heroic B.S.O.D, now having lost both the mother figures he held in his heart all his life. Yet even after all of this, Abe is still very much against revenge and retains his tender nature.
Chloe
An infertile stitch-lipped Mudokon queen rescued from Vykkers’ Labs during the events of Oddworld: Munch’s Oddysee.
- Broken Bird: Her years as a slave and plaything to the Vykkers made her this.
- Dark and Troubled Past: She grew up in Vykkers’ Labs, and not only was she a slave among hundreds of scrubs like her, but she was also Irwin and Humphrey’s chew toy, often subjected to horrifying experiments, some of which Chloe barely survived. With her timid nature, it’s safe to say she’s been traumatised her whole life, and even Abe (who grew up a slave himself) is downright heartbroken after hearing about Chloe’s childhood.
Alta
A female Merdokon fascinated by stories of the world above her birthplace, the glacial ruins of the Merdokon Sanctum, to the point where she left one night and met Abe in a cave near Spooceshrub Village during the events of 'Oddworld: Lungs'.
- Our Mermaids Are Different: Her species was inspired by sirens of mythology rather than the casual mermaids you'd expect. She also has legs instead of just one big tail, and she has fangs which surprisingly make her more adorable, especially when she's smiling.
