* VillainForgotToLevelGrind: Inverted, the strategy that he invented to defeat Godzilla was designed to defeat Godzilla who invaded the earth originally, but it is almost useless for the current version of Godzilla, who is much bigger and more powerful. So it would be a case of a hero Forgot To Level Grind.

* ItsAllAboutMe: Deconstructed, sure [[FreudianExcuse he has lost his family to Godzilla and has spent 20 years living in increasingly desperate conditions on the ''Aratrum'']], but he seemingly doesn't consider the fact that he isn't the only one who's lost loved ones and soldiers under his command might have families and parents,but don't share his burning desire for revenge. On the flipside, he quite obviously loved his grandfather enough to try and save him from what was obviously suicide alongside the rest of the elderly. Despite telling anyone can freely go back to the ''Aratrum'', he'll still drag so many into his mission whether or not they volunteered and not to mention that the soldiers and crew member actually put their own lives into his hand.

* FaceDeathWithDignity: [[spoiler:As he lays dying, he takes his end wih grace, even telling Haruo to live and making sure he understands that Ghidorah would always watch him and wait for the day he embraces revenge.]]

Even if they did find Godzilla, they would all be dead before they would even get close to him

* KnowWhenToFoldThem: When he realizes that Earth is now teeming with plants and animals that can chew their toughest armor to shreds, Leland decides to retreat and proposes an alternate plan to colonize Luna and periodically send science teams to study the planet in the hopes that future generations can figure out how humans can adapt to the new biosphere.

While some may view his actions understandable but endangering the ones under his command is just plain hypocritically selfish and inexcusable to the point that some random soldier calls him out on it, while taking those words at heart while Galu-Gu defends his actions. On the other hand this is still their lives on the line he's gambling.
