  • In his Funky Winkerbean review, he describes the way that the author insulted fans of comic strips. Additionally, he, quote, "proves his worth as a critic" by analyzing the comic brilliantly.
  • Apparently, reviewing comic strips means he has very little competition—so a few comic artists actually know him by name.
    • Mark Tatulli, creator of Liō, even addressed him as the "Comic Critic" when John met him at a convention.
    • Norm Feuti, creator of Gil and Retail, the latter of which John is a huge fan of, even gave him a cameo in a Retail strip as a customer on John's birthday, going as far as sending him an autographed copy of the original print.
    • And then there's Dana Simpson of Heavenly Nostrils. She apparently loved his review of her comic, and that he named it one of his favorite strips.
      • Did we mention that all three of these creators cameo'd in John's 50th episode? If this is what he's done after 50 episodes, just wait until he reaches something like 100 or 200...
