Awesome / Dark Star

• This John Carpenter's first feature length film is mostly a slow parody of 2001: A Space Odyssey and other "philosophical" SF films. It ends with the main characters failing to convince an artificially intelligent bomb to not explode. Only two characters survive the blast. One is taken by a group of asteroids out of nowhere. The other? He surfboards down a planet's atmosphere on a piece of wreckage.
• Pinback gets a minor one towards the end of the film. Boiler nearly shoots him as they wrestle over the gun, Boiler wanting to shoot the bolts locking Bomb # 20 in place, and Pinback trying to let Doolittle talk the bomb down. After the close call, Pinback tells Boiler her could have killed him, and gives him a good solid punch in the face.
