  • Burakov berating the officers under his command for not taking the case seriously.
Burakov: "Pick up everything! Check every can, every bottle, every cigarette butt, every piece of trash in this area for fingerprints, fibers and body fluids! Everything! You understand me? If we're going to fail, it won't be because of something left undone!"
Fetisov: (in a whispered aside to one of the Burakov's detectives) "Is he serious?" (Gets a nod in return.)
  • The final arrest, in which Chikatilo, on a regular trip to buy beer, is swiftly surrounded by a cohort of cops and bundled into a police car before he even knows what’s going on. What makes it even more awesome is the utterly dedicated but horribly overworked undercover cop, who earlier had confronted Chikatilo but inadvertently had let the killer go, and whose cousin's daughter became the final victim, is in the arrest team — making this Revenge.
  • Bondarchuk has been bullying Burakov throughout, even taunting Burakov when the latter is having a nervous breakdown in front of him. After Fetisov has led a weeping Burakov out of the room, Bondarchuk demands that Burakov be fired. Fetisov refuses. Bondarchuk dismisses everyone else from the room. Bad idea, pal:
Bondarchuk: If you ever again contradict me in front of-
    Fetisov: I have here—
Bondarchuk: I don't care what you have there!
    Fetisov: —Information about—
    Bondarchuk: [furious] Who cares!
Fetisov: —About the nineteen-year-old boy you maintain in the town of Shakti. The apartment you have arranged for him. And the gifts that you have given him. And the dates of your last three overnight visits. If you attempt to fire Lieutenant Burakov, now or at any time, I will send all this to your wife.
Fetisov: [politely] I will always be indebted to you. [Leaves]
  • Bukhanovsky reading the psych profile to Chikatilo, extremely nervous at being in the same room as a suspected serial killer—but then, as Bukhanovsky goes on reading, Chikatilo starts to look more and more terrified until he ultimately has a Villainous Breakdown.
  • Fetisov's apology to Burakov: see Heartwarming, because it's that too.
