Awesome / Brewster's Millions (1985)

Go To

  • As part of Brewster's shopping spree, he purchases a rare "inverted Jenny" stamp for 1.25 million dollars, the highest price ever paid for a stamp. Cut to his rivals' office, reading about it in the paper and laughing that he's violated the terms of the will by acquiring an asset. One of them picks a postcard and reads, "Gentlemen, having a wonderful time, wish you were here. Monty Brewster". He then sees the stamp that Brewster used to mail the postcard...
    • As Roundfield notes later, mailing the stamp was a stroke of genius: While the stamp was worth a lot as a collectible, it was still a stamp that could be used for its original purpose (mailing the postcard) and thus fulfilled the will's restrictions. Roundfield also makes approving comments about Brewster's creativity in using the exhibition baseball game and the purchase of expensive wine, then serving it all, to blow more of his money; clearly Brewster is a good deal smarter than even he himself realizes.
  • When he ends up with a series of unexpected successes in his gambling and investment, Monty happens upon a new idea: running an independent campaign for mayor. His Malicious Slander is so effective the other candidates sue the pants off of him. And despite being forced to drop out, he unintentionally forces another election when "none of the above" wins.
  • Monty punching Warren after Angela exposes Warren's deception...and then using the incident so that Monty can "hire" Angela as a lawyer for his "defense", completing the conditions of the will at the last second.
  • Roundfield gets one when he plans to take the lawyers to court over their attempted fraud.
