Awesome / An Honest Soul

Go To

In the Grim-dark future where there is only war, a simple, honest soul will accomplish wonders.

     The Main Story

  • Despite landing in a unknown land, separated from her team after falling into the Void, and a million other problems, Ruby Rose is still Ruby Rose. She ruses to the sound of gunfire and saves the life of Ismail Demiraj, a Sergeant in the Arbanian Janissaries, from a band of Orks. Because she is still a Huntress who protects and fight for those who were in peril.

  • Outnumbered, outgunned, surrounded without hope of reinforcements coming in time, the Arbanian Janissaries, the last of their homeworld, vow to fight to the last man against a onslaught of Orks in the defense of Epidamnus.

  • Ruby Rose goes toe to toe with Gurzag the Hoarder, the Ork Warboss of the WAAAGH. All within the Mega-Gargant attacking the city. She holds out against Gurzag long enough to sabotage the Gargant power core, bringing down it shield while it collapse and the Imperials laying down the hammer on it as it does.

  • At Ruby's darkest hour, she unleashed her Silver Eyes, and do what only the Emperor Himself has ever been able to do: Granted True Death to an entire legion of Daemons, Daemonic Heralds are petrified, the Greater Daemon is partly petrified, and she finished by decapitating Xog'drithuuch right back to the Warp. This act saves the city and the colony along with several name characters from death, or worse. The Orks themselves break down and run as fast they can from Ruby.
    • The Orks are so scared of her they even start comparing her, the "Red Rippa" to "Ol' Bale Eye;" Commissar Sebastian Yarrick Himself, the only human that the Orks truly respect.
    • How her Silver Eyes themselves are activated is a thing of beauty; Xog'drithuuch is a Daemon that embodies the collection of every spoken voice in the history of existence. So as he begins torturing her with these many voices, he(either by accident or intention) inevitably winds up using the voices of her teammates; Blake, Yang, and Weiss; to say things she knows they would never say. And so she rises, and unleashes her true power.
    • What's more, the activation of her Silver Eyes has a secondary affect in the Warp; one akin to a miniature Astronomicon! Through this, many skilled Navigators, cut off from the Astronomicon by the opening of the Great Rift, are able to use this "Stella Argenteanote " to safely translate back into Realspace. So not only did Ruby save an entire world of over ten million inhabitants, but dozens if not hundreds or even thousands of Imperial Voidships, and thereby hundreds of thousands if not millions of lives.

  • Ruby's actions have come to the attention of not one, but three of the 40k Galaxy's great powers.
    • It turns out that Be'lakor, the first ever Daemon Prince of Chaos Undivided and therefore arguably the strongest of his kindnote , was Xog'drithuuch's master, and has learned about the young Silver-Eyed Warrior through him.
    • Chegorach, the Aeldari God of Mischief and Trickery, deliberately possesses the Great Harlequin of a Masque and uses him to peruse the Black Library, the most ancient and complete collection of knowledge of the Immaeterium, and find a book about Ruby within it's halls. And whatever the Laughing God finds in its pages sends him laughing all the harder, for just how much Ruby could alter the fabric of destiny.
And how could Cegorach not laugh in that exact moment?!

A small, yet potentially pivotal actress had made its appearance on the Great Stage, completely out of the blue: her presence, her nature and her actions would alter the roles and plots of countless others, including his own Ultimate Jest, in unforeseeable ways.

And the Laughing God found very few things, in the magnificent performance that is existence, more hilarious than that.
    • Perhaps the best is reserved for last; on Holy Terra, within the Sanctum Imperialis, something miraculous happens: The Emperor speaks.
      • Right after His conversation with His Son, Roboute Guilliman, to appoint him Imperial Regent and Lord Commander of the Imperium, He on the Golden Throne focuses all of his attention on one of his Companions, causing the transhuman demigod to fall to his knees from the sheer weight of his Master's power. But rather than a reprimand to the Custodes, the Emperor delivers a command:
        …𝕭𝖊𝖑𝖊𝖓𝖔𝖘…𝖒𝖞 𝕮𝖔𝖒𝖕𝖆𝖓𝖎𝖔𝖓…
        …𝖋𝖎𝖓𝖉…𝖙𝖍𝖊 𝖘𝖎𝖑𝖛𝖊𝖗 𝖑𝖎𝖌𝖍𝖙…𝖘𝖍𝖎𝖊𝖑𝖉 𝖎𝖙…𝖘𝖍𝖎𝖊𝖑𝖉...𝖍𝖊𝖗…
      • That's right; the Emperor Himself is sending one of his Own Companions, a member of the Hetaeron Guard, to serve as Ruby's guardian.
      • What's more, this isn't just a Companion who has just begun his service or is near to completing it; the Custodes the Emperor selects has been serving for fifteen years and had been reckoning just a moment ago that he could probably serve for fifteen more! The unprecedented action of a member of the Hetaeron leaving the Sanctum halfway through his service is not unnoticed by his fellow Companions, but they do not stop or even question him; for they know that the only reason why one of their brothers would do so is if the Emperor had given him a mission that was even more important.
      • And for the final kicker, the Custodes in question, Belenos Suillimanis? He's not simply an average member of the Adeptus Custodes, but someone who was there to see the Emperor when he last walked as a Man; one of less than a thousand of his Order to survive the events of the Horus Heresy, such as the Siege of Terra and the War within the Webway. A transhuman warrior who managed to survive the deadliest war in the Imperium's history and has managed to survive all of the ten thousand years since while still remaining at combat readiness. Ruby Rose is going to find herself with one hell of a bodyguard.

     Side-Stories
  • While she eventually gets locked in stasis by Trazyn, Weiss still puts up a good fight against his initial dispatch of security forces when she arrives in the Solemnace Galleries. With nothing but a borrowed sword from the exhibit she's landed innote , and clever application of her Semblance, she easily decimates the Phalanx of Necron Warriors sent to intercept her. Highlights include the return of her Arma Gigas and the Summoning of the Necron Warriors she's just defeated to engage her foes. Needless to say, Trazyn is impressed not only with the unique nature of Weiss's abilities but also the skill with which she employs them.
  • Blake lands on the Imperium Colony of Dromoros in the aftermath of the Eye of Terror expanding and Daemon attacks. The Sisters of Battle, the Order of the Valorous Heart, leads a violent purge of much of the Hive City Maltax, blaming anyone deemed 'tainted' for causing the attacks. So what does Blake do? She leads a efficient resistance against Imperial Forces and the Valorous Heart from the Under Hive, earning nicknames such as the Black Gyrinx and the Shadow Witch. All while gaining wide support from many around her.
  • While being a Slave in Commorragh is anything but a good thing, the fact that Yang has done so well in the Arena is nothing to sneeze at, especially when we see her fight and the Archon who captured her recalling her past battles. Not to mention the fact that her spirit remains unbroken throughout.
    • One of her previous tallies included a Khorne Berserker, with the Archon in question recounts as his favorite match thus far.
    • The beast she defeats in the fight we see is a Togoran Bloodreek; known to be a killer of Astartes in the ring. And Yang handily defeats it in combat with her Semblance.
  • The sidestory, Fairy Tale, is a flashback told from the point of view of Summer Rose. Summer is telling a young Ruby a bedtime story of a little girl with a magic, silver mirror and a silver knight who saved the girl's village from a horde of demons. Little does Ruby know, it was no story. Summer was the little girl and the silver knight was Kaldor Draigo. That's right. Summer Rose fought alongside the Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights, himself.
