Part 3: Twisted Minds Again

Welcome back.

Previously on the liveblog, we find out more about Emma and Rex's pasts. Yes, the latter's still a jerkass. Travis shows up, and coitus ensued between him and Charlie. Also, The Company are still their sadistic selves.

Let's jump right back into the action with...

Part 3

The next day, Matt and Rex are in the kitchen when Travis shows up. He asks, "Isn't Charlie great?" Well, pointless sex aside, she is one of the semi-decent characters.

Rex laughs, telling Matt that Travis thinks they're idiots...then the guy walks up to him and says that they know who Travis is working for, and yes, the group will get the million dollars.

Travis retorts back with, "you so need to get laid." Ha! And he leaves.

Cut to Charlie's room, where she wakes up to the sound of someone knocking on her door. Is it Travis? Nope! It's Rex! Announcing that "big boy has left the building."

Yep. He had to resort to an old and tired Elvis reference.

Oh, and he gives her a cup of coffee, asking if she wanted sugar. Doesn't it seem weird that, after presumably months of him being antagonistic to everyone (thus making himself a huge hypocrite with the "people-person" thing), he's trying to be nice?

In Emma's room, she's cleaning herself up when she sees something wrong. Namely, in Danny's room, she finds a pair of her underwear.

Uh-oh. Though how much do you want to bet that The Company did it?

Emma finds Danny downstairs as he's working on something. She confronts him about the panty-stealing, or so she thinks. She tells him that, yes, she's sorry for everything that happened to him, but it's no excuse for him to steal her stuff.

Danny objects, saying that he didn't take anything, but Emma doesn't want to hear any of that. She asks him, because they don't have that much longer to stay, to try to be "civil, polite, and honest."

Normally, I would note about how she's not acting civil and polite, what with her screaming at him. But considering all the shit she's been through, it's understandable why her nerves are so frayed like that.

After Emma leaves, cut to outside. Danny walks around, trying to find a package, when he finds Travis' backpack. In tatters and covered in blood. He takes it to the group, explaining that he found it by the snare. Matt questions if a grizzly bear got him, but here's the problem: there are no animal tracks, nor footprints.

Very, very suspicious.

Emma decides to radio anyone for help, but guess what. "ZOMG IT'S PART OF DA GAMEZ!!!!1" from Rex. The rest aren't sure of that, because there's blood, and you can't fake this level of seriousness! Oh, and Rex thinks that if they do call for help, the police would not give a damn once they see his rap sheet.

I knew the bastard was a snake.

He goes on to say that if they call the cops, they will lose. So the group then tells The Company to send help. Or, at least, Matt does in Sean's Carter (or Carter-esque) voice.

Which is greatly appreciated by this fangirl. :)

Then Rex says to Travis to, yes, go fuck himself, because he won't be scared off in order to not win. Stay classy. Oh, and he tells the group to not give him the pleasure of being scared off, especially Charlie, imitating the ACTUALLY NOT THAT USELESS SEX SCENE. And yes, the two argue a bit.

Later that night, Rex, it seems like, is looking over Travis' things. Asking him where he is now. And one can spot a The Mummy Returns case, I think.

But hey, let's go to Emma and Danny! In the hallway, Danny still says that he didn't take her things, it's The Company. And he gives her a present. Awww. After being reluctant at first, she accepts it and heads to her room.

Well, it's a nice little token of appreciation. Something nice—WHOA WHAT'S THAT?! It looks like...I have no idea what it is. But Danny overhears the conversation as Emma shows Charlie the present.

It turns out that it's a replication of her...kitten.

For those of you who are wondering what the hell's going on, in a deleted scene, Emma had a kitten when she first entered her room. It was first thought that she would fulfill the stereotype of her being the bookish one with a cat. And there was originally a subplot involving the very same cat that John Riley (yeah, remember him?) once had. Sense the connections yet? It may mean that the Company was screwing with our Dramatis Personae the entire damn time.

(The reason why I changed it to what I originally had? I ended up re-watching the film, this time with the director's commentary. And I wasn't the only one who made the mistake of confusing the cat-sculpture with something else; one of the guys thought that it looked like, of all things, a loaf of bread.)

Regardless, lots of sickening Double Entendres occur between the ladies. Ew. The girls act like immature jerks, saying that Danny might have...um...made love to it, bashing away with his little thingy (yes, they do say "thingy" for a male body part).

God. Ew. But Danny...I pity him for two reasons. One, he tried to make something nice. But on the other hand, couldn't you make something a lot less creepy?

This whole thing feels like a White (Matt) and Gray (the group) and Black (the Company) Morality.

Danny goes to his room, and he looks at his doll in silence. Completely in despair, what is he thinking of? Hopefully he does get better.

The next day, seemingly the second-to-last. All quiet on the homeward front...until we hear Charlie scream. Is the present burning, is the Company screwing around again, or—

Oh, holy shit! Danny hung himself. Damn. By the way? Even though, by some miracle, that he wasn't killed, Stephen O'Reilly is really hanging from the rope. Yes, the actors do most of their own stunts here.

And yes, this scene is a Wham Scene.

Charlie calls out for the group, and the remaining members are horrified about what happened. Then Danny's corpse drops to the ground, and Matt tries to wake him up, to no avail.

Damn.

In the kitchen, Emma throws up—yes, it's onscreen—and Charlie helps her as Rex and Matt try to think of what to do. Emma shouts out that everything is not okay. Matt thinks that the only thing they can do now is to wait for the helicopter, because since Danny killed himself, the game is over.

And, oh, boy. Rex still thinks that this is all part of their game. But this time, he...kinda-sorta has a point, I guess. Because he says that Danny's suicide isn't their fault.

Um...while it might be true that Danny had a very fragile psyche, it was the accusations and the girls mocking his gift that did it. Isn't that bullying in a sense? Of course, there is one more factor; no, I won't spoil it yet.

Charlie thinks that they can't move Danny's body, and she saw it on TV. At first, they decide to cover the body. But then they decide to move the body outside. Isn't that moving in a sense? So they decide to take him to the yard while the girls try to use the radio.

Meh. At this point, I'll deduct that since things are getting worse, it's understandable that some of the characters are thinking irrationally.

Charlie tries to contact the police where, outside, Matt and Rex take Danny's body. Rex couldn't believe what Danny did, and Matt states that this is not what they signed up for. Naturally, Rex agrees, good for him. And he wonders what kinds of sick fucks would subscribe to this.

The answer: anyone who wouldn't mind stuff like this.

Then Rex tries to search for something, leaving Matt to return to the house. As the former tries to figure out something on the computer, the latter heads to Emma's room.

Matt apologizes to her about how the whole thing turned out, and Emma, packing up, accepts his apology. Then he tries to say something when, all of a sudden, Rex interrupts them, and yes, he found something.

In a...private/confession room of sorts, Rex asks the group how the Company plans to bankrolling the paychecks. Answers: subscription fees and advertising revenue! Of course, you don't get one without the other, and if no one subscribes, the revenues dry up.

Rex wonders why Travis, being a programmer who lives on the Internets, can't see a single ad. Matt thinks that, of course, there's tons of shit on the Internet! But hey, Rex manages to find a way to get onto the Internet. How? First off, the satellite still works. Secondly, he learned a lot of shit at his computer club.

Once he got on, he Self-Googled (and Googled everyone else) on the search engines. Nada, nothing pops out. And while it's true that the Internet's a big place, there's still one question. Why is it so hard to find that very site?

Well, we don't know, because he managed to find it. It doesn't have a name nor an address. He found a clue on a hacker-themed newsgroup.

Yep. It's a beta site. Likely an Obvious Beta. And we get the definition of what a beta site is. After the flurry of four screens showing different scenes, we get to see the beta site, which has lots of numbers. And Rex is trying to subscribe, using Travis' credit card (which has a limit of $50,000, and yes, he learned that from the club as well).

He goes on to say that nothing is working and how he doesn't get it. The only thing he can conclude is that it doesn't want to be seen by regular people.

So...why did they advertise for five people? Why would they pay so much money to watch them? Is the site legit? Yes, they have answers. And yes, it's compared to a porn site (thanks, Carter, I needed a snicker considering that it came out of your mouth), except that, aside from Charlie's escapades, it's hardly that.

...finally, Rex comes up with AN ACTUAL LEGIT ANSWER. He thnks that the entire thing is not legit. It's a snuff site.

Why would people want to kill them? Sadly, there's always a possibility that it can happen. We live in a world with white, gray, and yes, black morality; as unlikely as it is, creating a snuff whatever in the vein of reality shows can happen.

Anyway, enough analyzing, the other members doubt it because Danny committed suicide. Even Matt grows annoyed by the possibility of this entire thing being a snuff site.

But then. They get something. The site is finally revealed, revealing once and for all what its true intention is. Underneath each player's profile are betting odds. Odds on who'll bite it.

And the conversation's recorded and played back. Rex finds a camera somewhere, calls the sadistic Company sons of bitches, and...as soon as that's disconnected, the Internet's cut off, and chaos occurs. Everyone panics that they're going to die.

Well, everyone but the calm and collected Matt. Once again, channelling Carter Grayson, he says this to them.

Matt: "This is not a snuff website! I mean, come on, think about it! I mean, who are they gonna kill, the four of us? Look, you're the one who keeps saying this is just one of their games. That's all this is, this is just another game. They're just fucking with us."

Yeah, I'm convinced that Matt is easily a Carter Grayson from another universe. Which makes it all the more awesome.

Anyway, Matt decides that they'll leave and get the prize money tomorrow, which the group objects to. After all, what are they going to do about tonight? He reassures them that if they're that worried about it, he'll get the blaster gun and stand guard until morning.

No, I don't care that I made an error on what weapon Matt would be using. The similarities between him and Carter are so great, it's not funny. Right down to me liking them.

Anyway...the group stays in the house. Matt loads up the gun with the five bullets. Meanwhile, Rex tries to disconnect the cameras, I guess, all while the Hell Is That Noise soundtrack goes on.

And then...the alarm rings. Which can only mean one thing. As Rex turns to the cameras...

Rex: "You're still playing."

And on that cliffhanger note, we'll end it here! One more part to go, and it'll be huge. Will the group survive the final day? Who will die next? And will the group beat the game with a vengeance?

Emergency Signal! Find out in the conclusion of the liveblogging of My Little Eye!
