Chapter 11: No, Count Logan is Not Getting Any More Sympathetic

Note: This video was split into two parts. I'll be covering both here.

The battle has been won, but not the war, as the Void remains a threat. The heroes are miraculously healed of their injuries, and want to know how Terra mastered the Light Prognosticus. Copy Cat realizes that this is because Terra loved Beast Boy, which gives her power that those who only want to defeat Count Logan will never have, with the bashing of the Teen Titans and Doom Patrol getting more blatant than ever.

Let's do some power rankings, starting with less powerful characters and getting more powerful as they go from here

  • First are the Teen Titans and Doom Patrol, who have never won a battle in this fic without anyone else's help.
  • Above them are the minions, who have won every single time Copy Cat has not been involved in the fighting.
  • Above the minions are Copy Cat, who's arguably entering into God-Mode Sue territory by easily trouncing the minions.
  • Above Copy Cat is Count Logan, who easily defeats all the aforementioned heroes, establishing him as a Villain Sue.
  • At the top of the list is the Light Prognosticus-empowered Terra, who should be weaker than all the Titans combined, but with the power of the Light Prognosticus, is the most powerful character in the fic.

The heroes look at Beast Boy, and find that while he's not dead, merely unconscious, his consciousness is still blocking out his fellow Teen Titans. Robin then turns to Terra, asking her to tell him what happened the same way he asked Beast Boy to explain himself in "The Beast Within."

Essentially, Terra tells Beast Boy's sob story from the beginning, and says that after a life like his, he went insane. In the midst of his depression, he sought out the Dark Prognosticus, and while his empty heart enabled him to read the text, he still had to die first, which is why the Doom Patrol found his dead body. After his "death," he was reborn as Count Logan, exacting his revenge on those who had wronged him, or who merely were happy with their lives. He mastered his powers, gained the allegiance of his followers and built his castle in a dimension that was like his heart (Mykan's certainly laying it on thick, isn't he?), all of which apparently happened in the course of a few days, at most. His costume disguised his face and his voice, but it couldn't block out his pain or his desire for Terra to reconsider.

Of course, he couldn't get that, so he decided to go ahead with his plan of having the Void consume the universe. He specifically chose Tamaran to be first, to show Starfire what it felt to lose her world, simply because she got together with Robin. Of course, all the other "meaningless" worlds are showed no more mercy, and he only spared Earth until Terra was captured.

He still hoped for time with Terra, but believes that as he can't close the Void and everyone will despise him now (fairly accurate), he's come too far, and he plans on destroying the entire world before killing himself, although he feels guilty about lying to his minions about wanting to recreate the world.

The author describes Count Logan as unique from all of the other enemies the Teen Titans and Doom Patrol have faced, in that he's motivated by grief rather than lust for power. All this is what made Count Bleck a compelling villain, but Count Logan comes off as nothing more than a Wangsty agent of the author's revenge against canon.

Something as a corollary to all the shilling of Beast Boy, the other Teen Titans, the Doom Patrol and Terra all feel responsible for what Beast Boy has become. Even Copy-Cat, who barely knows Count Logan (and lost his parents to him, which inspires little except his desire for vengeance) understands why he became what he did. That said, Copy-Cat takes it upon himself to deliver the bad news- the only way to stop the void is to kill Beast Boy. Terra's upset, and Copy-Cat sympathizes, but the choice is "one life against all life forms that would ever exist", and they see no alternatives.

Count Logan, however, suddenly comes to and gives Terra two minutes, "the same two minutes (she) gave (him)", and by throwing his cane against a pillar, breaking the cane in half, activates the Self-Destruct Mechanism. Count Logan flies away, and Terra busts a hole in the wall, enabling the others to flee to Copy Cat's space ship before Castle Logan explodes.

Next Installment: The inevitable betrayal happens, and the heroes must fight their final battle for the sake of what's left of the universe.
