* TheScrappy: Mira thanks to [[spoiler:the group seemingly being okay with having a serial killer hanging around with them in the finale being a big point of controversy, as is Mira's decision to turn herself in. She flat out states several times in the game's events that she doesn't really understand human emotion, so her sudden remorse does seemingly spring out of nowhere. That her imprisonment was entirely voluntary (and eventually undone by Sean and Eric breaking her out) may also make her appear to be a KarmaHoudini to some. There's also the fact that her motives are inconsistent. In the Three-Way timeline, and with her past victims, her motive was to rip out their hearts in an attempt to learn how to feel emotions. But then, in the Radical-6 timeline, she kills Eric and all of D-Team, and attempts to kill Sean, without following her usual M.O. There, she just kills for the hell of it, and even starts laughing maniacally, and never even ''attempts'' to take their hearts, even though she's in a perfect position to do so.]]

** Pretty much every fan figured out that Participant 9, 7, 3 and 5 were respectively Sigma, Diana, Phi and Junpei. Many also guessed 6 was Akane, though some were somewhat more hesitant there.
** After Uchikoshi confirmed on twitter that "Gab" was the name of a character and his favourite of the new ones, many fans guessed Gab to be the dog mentioned in the past. This was proven to be correct.
** From the moment his design was revealed, many fans guessed Eric was either a villain or AxCrazy. The trailer more or less confirmed that was the case.

** The moral philosophy debate during the [[spoiler:Final Decision Game]]. It comes down to a number of characters suddenly and outspokenly [[spoiler:making the unified declaration that SHIFTing is morally wrong and is in fact the killing of innocents]]. This debate is very rushed and seems to have been forced into the game at the last moment as [[spoiler:by this point in the game you have SHIFTed dozens if not hundreds of times, with some of the characters in said scene being SHIFTed personalities themselves]]. Its clearly meant to add a weight to why not make the decision in favour of [[SHIFTing]] but its artificial, rushed, and doesn't come up again.

The YMMV of this is pretty one sided over Eric on this page as it portrays him as sympathetic or justified and base-breaking but doesnt go into that in the most polling he is literally last in ranking of characters in the Zero Escape games. Mira, who gets listed as a Scrappy, is more popular than he is.

* AlasPoorScrappy: Despite Eric's unpopular status, his fate in certain timelines garners sympathy. It doesn't help that a good portion of his deaths are [[spoiler:brought upon by his own girlfriend, who barely even cared for him herself]]. It helps even less that, like most things in the series, some of his worst moments are ameliorated in retrospect. [[spoiler: Throughout the whole game, Sean, who was neither at D-com nor mentioned at all to be a participant of the game, makes decisions for the team that can result in the death of members of the other two teams. And unlike Carlos or Diana, he's not making the decision under mind control. Is it any wonder that Eric's heavily suspicious of him? In particular, every time Eric goes full AxeCrazy at Sean, it's in the timeline where Sean inexplicably voted to kill another team and gave no explanation whatsoever for doing so.]]

** Eric's line in the first trailer, "STOP BULLSHITTING ME" has been getting some traction.
** The male characters (with the exception of Eric, mostly) being HotterAndSexier. Especially Junpei, who's barely recognizable compared to his previous appearances.

Epileptic Trees is for insane fan theories, not basic pre-release speculation.

* EpilepticTrees: Thanks to the large amount of mysteries present in the story, both in the setup and the previous game, there's a huge amount of this. The presence of Junpei and Akane are particularly notable since the previous game implied neither was present for this game. Not only that, but both WordOfGod and the previous title both explicitly state that they never met until the end of the Ambidex game. Popular theories include:
** Carlos' ill sister being PatientZero of Radical-6. [[spoiler: Nope. Though she is a latent esper.]]
** Eric is almost unanimously thought to be the psychopath alluded to in the teaser. [[spoiler: While he is a complete nutjob, that title actually goes to Mira.]]
** Q being a Left clone/a young Dio. [[spoiler: Nope to either, though he does have a relationship with Brother.]]
** The events with Team C occurring at a different time from the others. [[spoiler: Correct, though it's more like ''all'' the teams occur at different times.]]
** Due to his position on the box, a fan theory on Reddit suggested that Junpei is Zero. But even the person writing the theory thinks that makes no sense.
** Snake being Brother based on certain quotes and imagery from the past games. However, a fatal flaw in one of the evidence is that a localized name change was involved.
** [[spoiler: Was Q/Sean actually Kyle Klim's consciousness from VLR, and was "?" the consciousness from the Quantum computer that Brother built? That there was no real answer to what happened to Kyle and Sean being able to use SHIFT without the others implies that he should have esper abilities, something that no other AI in the series has been shown to have, adds a lot of speculation.]]
** There was a debate on whether or not the butterfly worn by Zero was a Monarch or a Viceroy, making reference to Mullerian mimicry; this theory suggested that there were two Zeroes. [[spoiler: In hindsight, it is technically true as this Zero is a copycat.]]

In order: Just a flaw; general example; general example.

** The English voice acting can fall into this during emotional or dramatic moments. [[spoiler:The battle between Carlos and Akane over who killed Junpei is especially bad when Akane's voice actress barely tries to sound convincingly angry and upset over how her childhood friend was brutally dismembered off-screen.]]
** The quality of the animations may look funnier than intended. For example, [[spoiler:Akane bludgeoning Carlos with the fire extinguisher.]]
** To some, everything about [[spoiler:Delta]] is unintentionally hilarious. Especially complex motives and [[spoiler:MIND HACKING]].

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

* RatedMForMoney: TurnedUpToEleven. Uchikoshi has straight out said that they purposefully shot for a "Z" rating from the CERO rating board[[note]]This is essentially CERO's version of "AO" for "adult only" by the ESRB, except it isn't exclusively for games with sexually explicit content. Games with extreme violence, disturbing themes, and sexual (yet not necessarily explicitly so) situations can get a Z rating.[[/note]] The game ended up getting a "D" rating instead, the highest "standard rating", below Z.[[note]]Which isn't that surprising, given the player rarely actively engages in violent activities, most of the extreme scenes of characters getting shot or otherwise killed are presented as (albeit very bloody) cutaways, and the most intense "sexual situation" in the game was a very quickly interrupted attempted rape that wasn't even an actual attempted rape.[[/note]]
