** And then there's Zuko himself. He may be somewhat like his cartoon counterpart, but he is not deadset/blind in his chase of the Avatar. He barely lost his temper (a famous character trait for Season 1 Zuko) and actually felt remorse for others, which is shown when [[spoiler:he apologizes to an unconscious Katara in the movie, whereas in the series he smugly rubs in his victory over her.]]

** Admiral Zhao, being threatening and violent in the TV series, really doesn't have much going for him in the movie. He's not intimidating or threatening in the least, he's just kind of an indecisive jerk who hesitates before everything he does. In fact, he's almost comical. Not only that, he's not as violent or willing to fight, as seen in the scenes where [[spoiler: he runs away after Iroh makes fire from thin air]] and [[spoiler: he barely puts up a fight when four waterbenders kill him at the end.

* CharacterDerailment: Done to several of the characters:
** Aang, a happy-go-lucky and eager kid in the series, is now a quiet and somewhat Aang-sty (GET IT?!) boy. He is not a boisterous twelve year old that is in denial of the war, does not display desire to enjoy life to the fullest ("Free and joyous" as an Air Nomad) and lacks any light-hearted, fun-loving behavior. He does display a bit of enthusiasm when he was at the Southern Air Temple, but somehow loses it after learning about the Air Nomad Genocide.
** Katara, who went through some {{Chickification}}.
** Sokka, being both the ComicRelief and the SmartGuy in the show, becomes a very boring, lifeless individual who spent most the journey just standing around without displaying any emotion in the movie. Like Katara, he does very little to move the story along. His personal [[DeadpanSnarker witty sarcastic behaviour]] is lacking. In fact, he's kind of a {{jerkass}}.
** Fire Lord Ozai, the de facto {{evil overlord}}, is somewhat shown as a curious individual in the movie. He doesn't appear as hateful and cruel, but contemplative and decisive. He even shows remorse for Zuko, his son's, banishment by warning Zhao that Zuko will be over him when he returns. This coming from the same guy who burned his own son alive.
** Master Pakku. Instead of being a sexist prick, he's just a generic wise martial arts master guy who looks almost identical to Billy Connoly
** Iroh. In the movie, while he retains his role as mentor to the afflicted Zuko, he is not as comedic and laid-back as his series counterpart. His wisdom is not as believable, and he lacks his wise sayings. He doesn't even get to keep his renowned fighting skills.

What a great idea having this tab was. Now we can bitch and moan about this terrible movie (using tropes, of course) all we want without earning the ire of Fast Eddie and the like whose job it is to keep the wiki from being a bitch and moan fest. Anyway, I added a few YMMV tropes from the main page, and decided not to delete the handful of tropes on this page that are NOT marked YMMV but on this page have subjective descriptions.

* MissedMomentOfAwesome: Plenty, especially for fans of the series.
** No fight between Zuko and Sokka in the beginning. Aang was immediately captured once the Fire Nation arrived.
** No fight between Aang and Zuko in the ship. Aang just simply escapes.
** No Agni Kai between Zuko and Zhao.
** Although the Blue Spirit has some screentime, his display of awesome swordfighting is very limited as there is too much focus on Aang fiddling with "their practice area".
** No fight between Katara and Pakku. Hell, zero sexism from Pakku.
** That fight between Katara and Zuko. Katara lost. Not only that, ''[[BadassDecay after two shots without gaining an upperhand]]''.
** Those expecting Iroh to attack random Fire Nation soldiers after displaying the ''only'' actual firebending in the movie, prepare to be disappointed.
** No Koh the Face-Stealer. He could've looked even scarier in CGI, but he never appeared in the film. What a rip-off.
** For some reason killing the Moon Spirit doesn't cause Koizilla to show up, probably because the movie keeps insisting that the Avatar can't hurt people under any circumstances (this apparently includes all previous Avatars including Kyoshi).
** [[spoiler:The final Agni Kai between Zuko and Zhao at the bridge never happened and Zhao was immediately drowned after that.]]

* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Long before the movie was anything more than a casting list and a few trailers, fans were complaining about changes to the source material.

to:

* SpecialEffectsFailure: There is one scene at the beginning where Sokka is splashed with water and then is immediately dry. Later there is the really slow moving CGI boulder that appears to take half a dozen stomping Earthbenders to throw. Also, it's an arctic area and you can't see anyone's breath.
** Also, the waterbending is sometimes not even animated.
** What makes it worse is that Industrial Light and Magic were the ones behind the special effects. You know, the guys that did Transformers and Jurassic Park?
* TheyChangedItNowItSucks: Long before the movie was anything more than a casting list and a few trailers, fans were complaining about changes to the source material. One of the biggest examples from the movie once it finally came out was the pronounciation changes, which Shyamalan diliberately included to make the character names sound closer to their "correct" asian pronounciations than the americanized pronounciations from the cartoon. Fans were not pleased.
* UnfortunateImplications: [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/castingchars.jpg This]] explains most of the commotion. See: [[UnfortunateImplications.{{Film}} Unfortunate Implications: Film]].

This doesn\'t work, since Sokka and Katara are 3/4 Southern Water tribe and would therefore more strongly resemble everyone else as opposed to standing out like lily white flowers.

* FridgeBrilliance: One of the major Racebending complaints is that now, Sokka, Katara and their grandmother are the only white people on the South pole. Everyone else there looks Eskimo. ''But'' fans of the series know that Katara's Grandmother left the North Water Tribe as a young woman, and as such, Katara and Sokka are descended of the North Pole. And everyone on the North pole in the movie is white. Sadly, the subplot about Kanna's backstory with Pakku was one of many threads left out of the movie.
