* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: Emmett saved a teeny heart-shaped alien who was uncomfortably wedged in the closed doors. [[spoiler: Bearing in mind Emmett is Finn's avatar,]] it's precious to see Emmett has a BigBrotherInstinct inside that giant heart of his. [[spoiler: This, plus Emmet's offering of a giant heart to the DUPLO aliens, implies an attempt was made to get along with his sister when she joined in at the end of the last movie.]]

** Pretty much nobody expected the four main characters of ''Film/WizardOfOz'' to make an appearance let alone be made into official minifigures, since Lego only used that license for one world in ''Videogame/LegoDimensions'' and a cameo of [[spoiler:the Wicked Witch]] in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoBatmanMovie''.

** Pretty much nobody expected the four main characters of ''Film/WizardOfOz'' to make an appearance let alone be made into official minifigures, since Lego only used that license for one world in ''Videogame/LegoDimensions'' [[spoiler:and a major cameo of the Wicked Witch in ''WesternAnimation/TheLegoBatmanMovie'']].

* InternetBackdraft: Downplayed, but much like Disney/RalphBreaksTheInternet, the scene in the first trailer where Sweet Mayhem questions if Wyldstyle is subservient to Emmet because he was the male did receive a little bit of criticism.

* FoeYay: Sweet Mayhem prefers Lucy over Emmet, praising her as the supreme leader. This hasn't gone unnoticed, with [[FoeYayShipping shippy fanart]] of the two being made ''before'' the movie came out.

* HilariousInHindsight: Back when speculations about a sequel were made, some people jokingly said that a Lego Friends character would be the villain. Turns out they were correct.

* EnsembleDarkhorse:
** [[DarkActionGirl Sweet Mayhem]] was already popular before the first teaser trailer was even released! Mostly because she's a mini-doll who [[DefiedTrope defies every trope]] [[GirlShowGhetto associated]] [[TasteslikeDiabetes with]] [[GirlyGirl mini-dolls]].
** [[ParodySue Rex Dangervest]], for the sheer hilarity of Creator/ChrisPratt playing an [[AdamWesting exaggerated version of himself]].
** Benny's Space Squad is already getting love, for bringing more [[BuffySpeak 80-something Spacemen]] into the franchise.

* EnsembleDarkhorse: [[DarkActionGirl Sweet Mayhem]] was already popular before the first teaser trailer was even released! Mostly because she's a mini-doll who [[DefiedTrope defies every trope]] [[GirlShowGhetto associated]] [[TasteslikeDiabetes with]] [[GirlyGirl mini-dolls]].

* BrokenBase:
** The fact that at least the first 5-10 minutes of the movie are going to take place in a post-apocalyptic Bricksburg has caused some debates. Some people dislike the idea, they feel that the post-apocalyptic genre has been drawn out and don't think that Lego can pull it off well, while others like the concept, since the sequel isn't ignoring what happened at the end of the first movie, and also point out that they specifically included that plot-point to parody it.
** The new designs of the characters were also met with a bit of ire, while Lucy, Benny and Metalbeard were generally well-recieved (especially Metalbeard, due to his huge size causing problems in his toy form), Batman looks pretty ridiculous (which is probably the point).
*** Unikitty/Uni-cat deserves special mention here. Some dislike that Unikitty is probably going to spend a good chunk of the movie as her angry self, preferring the adorable version of her from the first movie, while others are fine with getting to know the... less pleasant part of Unikitty's personality.
** The announcement of a musical world being part of the Sis-tar System has also caused some debates, considering that throwing musical numbers in a non-musical movie has never worked before, while others are excited for it, due to the fact that the movie is likely going to mock the concept in their usual tongue-in-cheek manner.

* UnfortunateImplications: At one point, Sweet Mayhem scans Emmett and claims that he managed to save the world, despite being a normal person. Wyldstyle then chimes in by stating that she basically did all the work herself. This has gained the ire of viewers who claimed this was a half-assed attempt at bringing in feminism into the movie. And this was only '''one''' scene in the first trailer.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: ''WesternAnimation/TheLEGONinjagoMovie'''s realistic outdoor environments faced a bit of criticism for being too much of a departure from the BuiltWithLEGO aesthetic. The trailer shows that while the film still uses some of the particle effects from the spinoffs, it's dialed back the more realistic elements in favor of the toy aesthetic.
