Unfortunately this is ''not'' ValuesDissonance, as even today stalking is often not taken seriously, leading to the rape or death (or both) of many women because the authorities failed to take action. It makes Carrie's death even more tragic since what happened to her is a danger that many women even ''today'' still face.
