** Some feel the Equestrian side doing much better during season 2 makes up for Vaati stealing too much of the limelight in the first one, others feel it's too little too late.

* BrokenBase: The VillainTeamUp. Some feel it makes the Church of Majora feel imposing and builds up the ultimate confrontation with it, other feel like it's completely forced and a large number of them are out of character just for considering teaming with Majora or each other.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: A lot of readers' reasoning for viewing Vaati as a PossessionSue was how he singlehadnedly dealt with all the major villains, with the Mane Six barely doing anything. Come Season 2, and not only do the Mane Six hold their weight, they're the ones to finish off nearly every boss monster [[spoiler: including Demise himself]]. Lampshaded during that last example, when Twilight points out that they've been relying on him the whole time, but now that he's too exhausted to continue, they'll have to finish it themselves.

* PossessionSue: A few detractors have accused Vaati of being this, though the author promises that will change as the story goes on.
** In general, the Legend of Zelda characters are portrayed this way, with the Equestrian villains also getting the short end of the stick and the Zelda villains being the major threat with [[spoiler:Ganondorf overpowering the Elements and Daring Do getting her flank kicked by the Church of Majora]]. The story just seems lopsided towards the Zelda cast.
*** To be fair, Sombra was presented as a serious enough threat that Vaati could only hold him off until the Crystal Heart could be used.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: [[spoiler:Demise is resurrected...but Ghirahim is never shown reacting to this, or to Demise being killed DeaderThanDead. Given Ghirahim's defining trait in canon is UndyingLoyalty to Demise, this feels like wasted potential.]]
** This is because Ghirahim is unaware of [[spoiler:Demise's resurrection]], and Dethl has no intention of telling him, or anyone else, for that matter, about it.

** The same could be said for how he brought back Diamond Tiara. Originally, she came up with the plan to burn down the Cutie Mark Crusaders' clubhouse herself without Dethl there to possess her, was [[IHaveNoSon disowned by her father]], and was supposed to die when the Krylock bit her. However, following the backlash from many fans who felt he was too hard on her, he wrote the chapter that revealed that Diamond Tiara was turned into a Krylock by the venom, was released by Dethl, sicked on Ponyville, turned back to normal, and was revealed to have been possessed by Dethl when she committed her deed, rewriting the original chapter to include that. However, it seems apparent that the author doesn't like DT very much, and despite bringing her back, [[AnArmAndALeg didn't go easy on her]].

* CompleteMonster: Dethl, whom Lord Siravant has stated in the past to be the vilest character he's ever written. What little we've seen of him does not paint a pretty picture: he's the [[DreamWeaver King of Nightmares]], and thus excels at giving his victims [[YourWorstNightmare the worst nightmares imaginable]], won a bloody civil war in the Dark World after the death of Demise and became its new [[EvilOverlord High King]], freed King Sombra and restored his powers, and possessed Diamond Tiara in an effort to kill Scootaloo and then unleashed her on Ponyville again after she was turned into a krylock while imprisoned in Tartarus, all to punish Vaati for redeeming himself.
** He's also the one who brought Ganon to Equestria in Season 2, though he was doing this on Majora's orders.
