* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Nobody in the episode is even remotely likable (with the possible exception of Mr. Krabs). Squidward was openly reading [=SpongeBob=]'s diary to the Krusty Krab and felt no remorse for it, the Bikini Bottomites were laughing along (then acted like {{Hypocrite}}s when [=SpongeBob=} ran off crying), and [=SpongeBob=] was being an idiot by leaving his own diary unguarded.

DIAA does not apply to singluar episodes. Please see the Darkness Induced Audience Apathy Clean-Up Thread if you wish to add them back.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: None of the characters are even remotely likable from Squidward being a massive {{Jerkass}} to [=SpongeBob=] by reading his diary and bragging it towards everyone, the citizens of Bikini bottom giving Squidward a DisproportionateRetribution for reading it and being massive hypocrites throughout the episode and [=SpongeBob=] being an idiot for leaving his own diary unguarded. The only possible exception is Mr. Krabs, who was not involved in reading [=SpongeBob=]'s diary like the hypocritical citizens and did call Squidward out on what he did while still not taking part in the town's disproportionate retribution on him.

* TearJerker: [=SpongeBob=] breaking down to tears after Mrs. Puff harshly tells him that he's failed his boating test once again and tells him to get out of her sight.

I guess I wouldn’t consider them such because their hypocrisy is done for Rule Of Funny.

* DesignatedHero: The residents are supposedly in the right for [[DisproportionateRetribution harshly punishing]] Squidward for something that ''they'' did too. While Squidward technically deserves all of this, their hypocrisy [[BlackAndGreyMorality really doesn't make them come off as any better than him]]. The only thing that makes them slightly relatable is that they do ''not'' partake in reading [=SpongeBob=]'s ''real'' diary when Squidward starts reading it.

** Another thing this episode tries to do is [[Main/DeconstructedTrope deconstruct]] [=SpongeBob's=] flanderization when it comes to his bad driving, which had been getting worse since ''Season 2''! In it, [=SpongeBob=] is back to just being incredibly nervous behind the wheel, which just so happens to cause him to do tons of property damage. When the show revived in 2015, the flanderization took over once again.
