* FanonDiscontinuity: Despite the meme, this is widely considered one of the worst episodes in the series due to Squidward not learning from his mistakes at the end of the episode. Patrick and the townspeople are also very unlikeable.

Idiot Plot is now a definition-only page.

* IdiotPlot: If [=SpongeBob=]'s diary wasn't left in the open, most, if not all, of the plot could have been avoided.

* AlasPoorScrappy: Many fans who hate [=SpongeBob=] happen to feel bad for him in this episode.
* BrokenBase: There are fans that [[TheWoobie felt bad for [=SpongeBob=]]] and fans that believed that [[{{TakeThatScrappy}} [=SpongeBob=] deserved to have his diary read.]] [[BreadEggsBreadedEggs Also fans who]] [[AlasPoorScrappy thought he deserved it, only to feel bad for him anyway]].

** Another thing this episode tries to do is [[Main/DeconstructedTrope deconstruct]] [=SpongeBob's=] flanderization when it comes to his bad driving, which had been getting worse since ''Season 2''. In it, [=SpongeBob=] is back to just being incredibly nervous behind the wheel, which just so happens to cause him to do tons of property damage. When the show revived in 2015, the flanderization took over once again.

* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: Nobody in the episode is even remotely likable (with the possible exception of Mr. Krabs). Squidward was openly reading [=SpongeBob=]'s diary to the Krusty Krab and felt no remorse for it, the Bikini Bottomites were laughing along (then acted like {{Hypocrite}}s when [=SpongeBob=] ran off crying), and [=SpongeBob=] was being an idiot by leaving his own diary unguarded.
