Seeing how Broken Base has been redefined and is being trimmed down to only include long-running debates (though it has been four years and debates over among the fans got pretty heated even as it was ongoing), this should get pruned. Some of the issues with Spider-Verse are extensions of older divisive issues within the fandom, like a general dislike of JMS Spider Man's supernatural elements and Dan Slott's questionable decisions as the main writer; and the very nature of the event was inherently divisive from the start (killing off fan favorites for shock value, continuity errors with universe designations, etc.). It could still stand reorganization and rewording.

** %%** Some fans are worried that some Spider Men/Women will get more focus due to name recognition (Kaine/Ben, Miguel, Jessica, Miles, 616 Peter and [=SpOck=] just to name a few).
** %%** The inclusion of Morlun as the main villain again has split fans down the middle, in no small part due to his previous appearances. Some reckon that the character could be redeemed with this arc, others would rather that a different villain took his place as the BigBad of the story.
*** %%*** Then are those who liked his previous apperances but feel that Slott writes him out of character and that his family does nothing but makes him less mysterious and interesting.
** %%** The fact that many of the {{Elseworld}} Spider-Men have received the CListFodder treatment. The most egregious of which being the fan favorite [[spoiler: [[ComicBook/MarvelComics2 MC2 Peter Parker]], who was married to Mary Jane and fathered Spider-Girl, Mayday Parker.]]
** %%** Slott's statement on Twitter that he intended to disregard the universe designations listed in the databooks and databases like the [[http://www.marvunapp.com/master/earthteaz.htm#numbered Marvel Universe Appendix]] - which were previously treated as canon - and retcon the ones not already featured in comics angered a lot of fans. Most notably, the Marvel Comics Database wiki - which was conceived as a digital version of the databooks first and foremost - protested that Slott didn't have the authority to make those sorts of decisions and disregarded his statement, treating the retconned universe designations as being alternates regardless of Marvel's stance regarding them. The editorial response to the controversy was that the databooks ''are'' canon, but only where they don't contradict the content of the comics.
*** %%*** In response to fanmail pointing out the universe designation discrepancy in regards to ''Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends'' and asking if there was hope for the canon Spider-Friends to have a happy ending, editor Nick Lowe ignored the comment regarding the discrepancy and stated that "There are a lot of universes out there, so maybe there's a version of the Amazing Friends who are still alive. I wouldn't bank on it, though."
** %%** Many find that [[spoiler: the survival of [=MC2=]'s Mary Jane and Wes and Mayday's transition from Spider-Girl to Spider-Woman]] is nothing more than a slap to the face, a crappy AuthorsSavingThrow from the writers to save face after the events of ''Amazing'' #8 and the crap she was put through throughout the story and that [[spoiler:her Peter should have just survived instead.]]

* CrossesTheLineTwice: The [[DeliciousFruitPies Hostess ads]] Spider-Man's death is seen by many as good BlackComedy, particularly since the scene plays out like a comic book Hostess ad gone wrong and the Hostess slogan being used to refer to Spider-Totems as a delicious treat.

* {{Fanon}}: Because of Dan Slott's unpopular decision to disregard the universe designations given in the data books and many fans being displeased with a lot of the alternate Spider-Men becoming CListFodder, most fans like to have it as their headcanon that the Spider-Men killed off in the crossover event were alternate versions and that the real incarnations of the Spider-Men involved remain unharmed by Morlun and the Inheritors.
