** Many people may be more familiar with Brenda's movie theater death in ''Film/ScaryMovie'' than Maureen's movie theater death here, despite the latter inspiring the former. Aside from how [[BlackComedy over-the-top funny]] (and [[AssholeVictim much more deserving]]) the later scene was, a good reason may be because Regina Hall was one of the film's protagonists unlike Creator/JadaPinkett's AdvertisedExtra.

* FunnyAneurysmMoment:

* ShockingSwerve: Parodied at the end of the first movie, where the killer is revealed [[spoiler: to be the retarded Doofy, who has already gotten away and is shown taking off his disguise and is then picked up by his girlfriend and [[TheBadGuyWins drives off into the sunset]]. Earlier in the film, the girlfriend had no idea that he was even the mastermind, but they're revealed to have been working together in the ending.]]

** The basketball scene from the second. ''Good lord'' the basketball scene, which many also consider the best/funniest scene in the whole movie.

* FranchiseOriginalSin: The first two films had scenes spoofing ''Film/TheMatrix'', ''Film/TheUsualSuspects'', ''Film/CharliesAngels'', ''Film/MissionImpossible'', and contemporary ad campaigns for Budweiser and Nike, none of which are horror movies. Overall, however, they were still clear-cut parodies of horror movies first as opposed to pop culture parodies. Not so in the third film, which had a whole subplot devoted to parodying ''Film/EightMile'' and a much broader list of targets for its mockery than just horror movies. The following films only sank further into this morass, much like the rest of the spoof genre did in the 2000s -- a morass for which many have blamed [[Creator/SeltzerAndFriedberg Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg]], a writer/director duo who built their careers on the fact that they were two of the six writers on the first film.

* ParodyDisplacement: The basketball scene from ''2'' is far more memorable than the original 2000 Nike commercial that inspired it.

* WeirdAlEffect:
** $157 million worth of tickets were sold at the US box office to see Scary Movie, compared with $103 million for ''Film/{{Scream 1996}}''. But this was only at the time; which has been seen by more people since release is completely untrackable, and both films retain large fandoms.

** A big problem with ''Scary Movie 2'', even taking into account the fact that spoof movies generally don't age too well. In addition to the film featuring a lot of spoofs of adverts and music videos from 2000--2001 (which are a lot less likely to be remembered than films from the same time period), most of the films being spoofed got horrible critical receptions and were quickly forgotten (barring ''Film/TheExorcist'' and ''Film/Poltergeist1982''), which hurts the film quite badly these days. The second movie also contains a reference to then popular, but now mostly-forgotten game show ''Series/TheWeakestLink'' and a joke about Mad Cow Disease, a disease that was hot-topic at the time that has since been virtually eradicated.

** A big problem with ''Scary Movie 2'', even taking into account the fact that spoof movies generally don't age too well. In addition to the film featuring a lot of spoofs of adverts and music videos from 2000--2001 (which are a lot less likely to be remembered than films from the same time period), most of the films being spoofed got horrible critical receptions and were quickly forgotten (barring ''Film/TheExorcist'' and ''Film/Poltergeist1982''), which hurts the film quite badly these days. The second movie also contains a reference to then popular, but now mostly-forgotten game show ''Series/TheWeakestLink''.

** The "Twins" scene and the Michael Jackson ShoutOut to ''Film/TheOthers'' in the third movie.

* HarsherInHindsight: The first film's killer Bobby admits that the reason why he became a SerialKiller was because "lack of sex can cause serious deviant behavior." While this was just a hilariously weak reason to turn evil at the time, the rise of the so-called online "Incel culture" and various incidents involved with people associated with it have made it considerably less funny.

** In the first movie, there's a TakeThat to Creator/ShaquilleONeal for his acting skills in ''Film/{{Kazaam}}''. Guess who shows up in the ''4''?

** The (thankfully) brief, [[LamePun snotty]] scene in the first movie.

* CrossesTheLineTwice:
** A girl living with her drug-dealing father? Not funny. Having them talk about how cutting crack with baking powder will have people growing muffins out of their noses? Funny.
** A white guy saying "nigger" usually won't score many laughs, but when said white guy is a priest and he's singing "Shake Your Ass" it's a riot!
** In the third movie, the President and his bodyguard succumb to paranoia and beat up a roomful of "aliens disguised as humans," a.k.a. handicapped people. And if that wasn't enough, the second line is definitely crossed when the bodyguard opens up an exit...by grabbing a shotgun and blasting through a giant picture of Mother Teresa.
** The scene in the third film of a policewoman trying to tell a man his wife is going to die. The part where he goes "She broke her wiener?".
** The first film's ''Scream 2'' parody. A woman being stabbed to death in a movie theater? Horrific. A woman being stabbed to death by all the other theater patrons (including [[RefugeInAudacity Mother Teresa and the Pope]]) because they got sick of her [[AssholeVictim talking during the movie]]? Hilarious.
** A parrot saying dirty words? Not very funny. The parrot getting into a smacktalk argument with Shorty? Hysterical.
** Hanson getting aroused while dressing the turkey by licking it? Pure {{Squick}}. Hanson mounting the bird, humping it, having TheImmodestOrgasm, and ''then'' serving it? Pure hilarity.
** The end of Cindy and Bobby's sex scene in the first film, where Cindy is launched to the ceiling by a geyser of semen.
** Getting dragged under a bed by [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLQeBFmPuSU an animate clown doll?]] Standard horror movie schtick. [[spoiler:Being tough enough to [[MuggingTheMonster beat the shit out of the doll]]? Badass. Lassoing the fleeing doll with one's six-foot-long prehensile GagPenis and ''[[BlackComedyRape sodomizing]]'' it to death?]] That's this trope.

** Creator/LeslieNielsen is probably the only person to make racist jokes in front of the ''entire'' UN Assembly in the fourth movie so insanely hilarious.
** Greg [[WouldHitAGirl beating up Cindy]] while her friends and boyfriend do nothing? Not funny. Finishing her off with an [[WrestlerInAllOfUs elbow drop]] after telling the killer to bring it on? Hilarious.
** A PedophilePriest having sex with an underage girl? Horrible. Said girl being a possessed demon child a la ''Film/TheExorcist'' who's screaming "Fuck me!"? Somehow amusing.
** Dr. Phil [[LifeOrLimbDecision having to saw off his own foot]]? Rather painful. Dr. Phil realizing he ''[[ShootTheShaggyDog sawed off the wrong foot, dooming both him and Shaq anyway]]''? [[BlackComedy Darkly hilarious]].

** The ''Film/EvilDead2013'' sequence one the fifth movie, with ''douses'' of black blood, one of the possessed Christians puking all over the fan and ''the puke getting doused in her face''.

* NauseaFuel: The climax of Cindy and Bobby's sex scene in the first movie.

** Greg beating up Cindy while her friends and boyfriend do nothing? Not funny. Finishing her off with an [[WrestlerInAllOfUs elbow drop]] after telling the killer to bring it on? Hilarious.
