* StrawmanHasAPoint: One early episode has the city council ban stuff like bike-riding, skateboarding, rollerblading, etc on the pier. While it's pretty obvious that they're Straw-MoralGuardians and Merv is clearly exaggerating his injury, they actually ''do'' have a point that it can be dangerous due to how crowded it is. (And in fact, it should be common sense do not skate around crowded areas with loads of foot-traffic.)

* AwesomeMusic: The intro.

** This is especially bizarre; because Sammy acted ''just'' like Oliver when he was first introduced. But to give the show a bit of credit, the crew accepts Oliver and find something he's good at: Keeping score and time.

** Which was [[CrowningMomentOfFunny rather amusing]] because the news reporter was stalling for an expected story and at that moment was commenting that nothing noteworthy was going on.

* CrowningMomentOfHeartwarming: In an episode where the kids join a Sandcastle contest, they unfortunately find out that it's too close to the ocean and the tide threatens to wash it away. They try several things to hold the water off such as digging a moat for the water to come in and forming a barrier with their skim boards. Twister at one point seeks assistance from Lars and friends, but is laughed off. Just when it looks like the group is going to be overcome by the tide, a hand reaches past to help steady the barrier-- Lars's hand. He and his friends add their larger surf boards to the barrier, keeping the water at bay long enough for the judges to note the kids' contest entry.
* CrowningMomentOfFunny: And in said episode, the person who wins the sandcastle contest? A six-year-old-girl who was the only one who actually made a sand''castle''.
** Everyone else had made fantastic sculptures, but it was a sand''castle'' contest, so they had to give her the prize.

They try several things to hold the water off such as digging a moat for the water to come in and using a surfboard to hold the water off long enough for the judges to photograph it. Twister actually had asked Lars and his friends for help but they refused. However later on, Lars and his friends ''actually show up'' and help keep the surfboard up.

* BrokenAesop: The episode "Power Girl Surfers" had Reggie starting a group of female surfers to prove that girls can be just as extreme as boys. She does this after Otto gets a big cover story in his favorite surfing magazine, which Reggie believes she deserves more than he does. The intended "girl power" message is admirable, but it's ruined by Reggie spending the entire episode acting like a blatant {{Jerkass}}, and essentially trying to sabotage Otto's shot at fame out of [[GreenEyedMonster resentment]]. She claims that she was passed over for a cover story because she's a girl, even though there's no justification for this. Otto only got the story because there happened to be a writer for the magazine conveniently standing nearby.

* AcceptableTargets: Tourists. Like it would kill the writers to acknowledge once that the act of taking a vacation does not automatically make you a self-absorbed, ignorant jerk.

** Actually, his {{Jerkass}} tendencies are heavily acknowledged. In fact, they are a major part of his characters.

* JerkassSue: Otto, a completely rude and egotistical snot who constantly gets excused due to his supreme extreme sports abilities.

** Although this is the only one who's actually latino; Reggie and Otto are AmbiguouslyBrown and they probably ''could'' be of Latino descent.
