* InformedWrongness: In the first two chapters, the narrative of the comic is that Ray's persecution at the hands of Morales and the people of Meva City is justified and that the consequences for his recklessness and disregard for the law warrant consequences. Yet the story fails to actually present any negative outcomes bad enough to convince the reader to side with the people of Meva City or S.O.S in that regard (or at least convince the reader to see the negatives as outweighing the positives) and only gives readers the impression that S.O.S and Morales are acting on LawfulStupid at best or being oppressively authoritarian at worst. Even then, this is not helped by how most moments of collateral damage have come across less as recklessness from Ray and more PowerIncontinence.

* UnintentionallySympathetic: In theory, the first two chapters are meant to establish Ray as a reckless vigilante who refuses to acknowledge that his destructive behavior has consequences. In practice, its hard not to sympathize with Ray 100% as a misunderstood hero who suffers from PowerIncontinence and who Meva City would be worse off without, given that the reader is fully aware of what was going on (unlike the citizens) as well as of the fact that had he not got involved, [[FridgeHorror the officers wounded in the explosion could have instead ended up killed]] by the Port Town Gang, and [[spoiler: Morales would have ended up in their clutches had Ray [[RefusalOfTheCall chosen to not get involved]] like he initially planned]] Unlike Asuka, he doesn't wait for someone to give him the order to stop crime, which makes it hard to really see him as anything but a victim of Meva City's inability to keep the peace and the S.O.S' slow response time.

** Jak is meant to be seen as a JerkWithAHeartOfGold TeamDad boss to Ray and the rest of his employees, but his abrasive and demanding attitude, even toward people like Liz who haven't done anything to justify his behavior toward them, makes him largely come across as strictly a MeanBoss with his redeeming moments being miniscule at best. This is not helped by how, even when he recognizes he's made a mistake (like having Ray spar with the yak despite knowing he's got difficulty controlling his powers), Jak hardly does anything to make amends or apologize.

** Morales' attitude against Ray puts him in a negative light, even after Chapter 3, given how antagonistic towards Ray early on in Chapter 1, from indirectly spewing demagoguery about him over taxpayer money to taunting him in a demonstration match, and it becomes easy to lose all respect for him by chapter 3 regardless of any redeeming qualities he has or displays later. In chapter 4, it's revealed ''he actually knew Ray saved him'', but he chose to keep throwing Ray under the bus simply because it would have been inconvenience to him due to losing Meva City's support by going back on his statements and stance; Morales' attempts to make his own actions look sympathetic only made him look worse in that it comes off as putting self-gain over integrity.

*** The people of Meva city tend to come off as [[UngratefulBastard ingrates]] and an EasilySwayedPopulation as well; its true that Ray caused a lot of destruction in his attempts at heroism and he ''did'' hurt some people inadvertently, but be that as it may, they weren't ''killed''. * AuthorsSavingThrow: The first two chapters faced some criticism 4 years later for its narrative expecting readers to sympathize with the citizens and authorities of Meva City for persecuting and vilifying Ray as an arsonist and terrorist despite not knowing (or seemingly not trying to look into) the full story of Ray's vigilante exploits simply on the basis of "he broke the law and destroyed property, so it warrants consequences" with little to no nuance, especially regarding why he did. Chapter 4 shifts the narrative from Ray joining S.O.S. to atone to the authorities extending the offer to him out of recognition for the lives he's saved and sees his help as [[CopsNeedTheVigilante something desperately needed]], with implications that the public have grown suspicious of the accusations against Ray. The S.O.S. is friendlier and open-minded toward Ray in contrast to previous chapters, with some seeking further details from Ray about the Meva Arsenal incident. The end of Chapter 4 full cemented this with Rayfox upstaging a public speech held by Morales to fully explain who he is, the powers he possesses, and what he's been doing, Making clear his goals to improve himself as a crime fighter he's forming at own request rather than anyone shaming him for his apparent disregard for the law, as if the author has taken to fully embracing the viewing of Ray as an earnest aspiring hero rather than the careless vigilante the previous chapters tried to portray him as.

While Ray does get some flack he still comes out on top in the end.

* DesignatedMonkey: In the first two chapters, Scott expects the reader to view Ray's persecution at the hands of Morales and the people of Meva City as justified by his recklessness and disregard for the law. Yet the story fails to actually present any negative consequences bad enough to convince the reader to side with S.O.S in that regard (or at least convince the reader to see the negatives as outweighing the positives) and only gives readers the impression that S.O.S and Morales are acting on LawfulStupid at best or being oppressively authoritarian at worst. Even then, this is not helped by how most moments of collateral damage have come across less as recklessness from Ray and more PowerIncontinence.

* BrokenBase: From chapters 1-2, [[spoiler: You have one half of the base who thinks Ray's imprisonment is justified since he caused alot of property destruction and law breaking, often shouting "realism" and the reasoning that no one seeing Ray's heroism negates it...and then you have the other half that thinks it isn't and the society of Meva City and the law is a complete trainwreck and that property damage shouldn't overshadow the fact that Ray has done a better job at fighting crime than anyone else at the moment regardless of the mishaps that occurred]].
* DesignatedMonkey: In the first two chapters, Scott expects the reader to view Ray's persecution at the hands of Morales and the people of Meva City as justified by his recklessness and disregard for the law. Yet the story fails to actually present any negative consequences bad enough to convince the reader to side with S.O.S in that regard (or at least convince the reader to see the negatives as outweighing the positives) and only gave readers the impression that S.O.S and Morales are acting on LawfulStupid at best or being oppressively authoritarian at worst. Even then, this is not helped by how most moments of collateral damage have come across less as recklessness from Ray and more PowerIncontinence.

In practice, its hard not to sympathize with Ray 100% as a misunderstood hero who suffers from PowerIncontinence that Meva City would be worse off without given that the reader is fully aware of what was going on unlike the citizens as well as the fact that had he not got involved, [[FridgeHorror the officers wounded in the explosion could have instead ended up killed]] by the Port Town Gang, and [[spoiler: Morales would have ended up in their clutches had Ray [[RefusalOfTheCall chosen to not get involved]] like he initially planned]]…Unlike Asuka, he doesn't wait for someone to give him the order to stop crime, which makes it hard to really see him as anything but a victim of Meva City's inability to keep the peace and the S.O.S' slow-response time.
** Summer comes off as abrasive in the first two chapters she appears in, especially towards Ray, but its actually understandable in her case. Its implied she had a rough upkeeping and had to work to get where she is. [[spoiler: Ray on the other hand just got accepted after putting on a show when fighting the Port Town Gang and Liev twice, the latter which eventually caused Asuka to recruit him, which is in direct contrast to her. Add onto the fact that her job is at risk by the time the third chapter hits because of Asuka's lack of foresight, and its hard not to sympathize with her given that she had to go through a lot of hardships while Ray had very little, even if she isn't the primary protagonist]].protagonist.

Most fans are happy to see Ray working with Summer and Asuka. Also, Ray isn't the only Butt Monkey in the first two chapters and he always end them in a positive note despite the setbacks.

None

* AudienceAwarenessAdvantage: Despite that Meva City despises Ray from chapters 1 through 3, its easier for the audience to be critical of Morales and the Meva Province while being sympathetic to Ray given that unlike the citizens, ''they'' know what actually happens in full context.
