* AuthorsSavingThrow: Fans of the series were displeased by the [[PreOrderBonus pre-order bonuses]] of the previous two games (the Volcanox Armor from ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankIntoTheNexus Into the Nexus]]'' and the Bouncer from [[VideoGame/RatchetAndClank2016 PS4]]) as they were exclusive items that could not be obtained in-game and were never released in any fashion post-launch. In response to this, Insomniac has made it abundantly clear that the Carbonox armor and Pixelizer weapon players receive for pre-ordering ''Rift Apart'' are simply early unlocks, and that they can both be obtained within the game itself.
** On a similar note, both the pre-order weapon for ''Rift Apart'', the Pixelizer HD, and the one for the 2016 game, the Bouncer, are both available as soon as you enter Challenge Mode. ''FOR FREE!''

* FanartAtFirstSight: Rivet, at the time unnamed, instantly got fanart just minutes after she was briefly onscreen when the game was previewed during the Playstation 5 reveal video.

** The [[FreezeRay Cold Snap]]. While it takes much longer to upgrade than the Topiary, it provides more of a damage bonus once fully upgraded. You can unlock the ability for frozen enemies to shatter into shards, damaging surrounding enemies. This results in a screen clearing chain reaction of explosions from hitting only a single frozen enemy. It leaves behind a cloud that can even freeze the same boss multiple times and any new enemies that enter the area. Cycling between the Cold Snap and a powerful single shot weapon such as the Warmonger or Headhunter and bosses can be killed in a matter of seconds, making the weapon a key aspect of speedrunning. Besides the low ammo capacity, its only downside is that it's available much later than the Topiary, with it being unlocked upon arriving at Cordelion whereas the Topiary is unlocked upon arriving on Sargasso, where [[{{Deuteragonist}} Rivet]] is first playable.

** Unfortunately, the Void Repulsor/Reactor. While its concept is very interesting, the end result is a poor man's [[VideoGame/RatchetDeadlocked Holo-Shield Launcher]] with abysmal damage (''especially'' compared to The Enforcer or even the Pixelizer) for a Shotgun-type weapon that chews through ammo faster than Insomniac ditching Angela after the second game. On top of that, it ''only'' gains experience by shooting enemies, so using it to block enemy shots simply drains its (pitiful) ammo reserve without earning progress toward an upgrade. On top of that, while the final upgrade's ability to catch shots and fire them back is a cool idea on paper, the returned shots are so weak that you'll find yourself killing enemies with the initial blast than any caught bullets.
** The Bombardier. It's meant as an assist weapon meant to help chip away at enemy health. But unfortunately, there are many better options for support weapons in the game. When deployed, it flies in a straight line while automatically targeting enemies below it to pelt with projectiles. Projectiles with horrid damage capability that have a hard time hitting anything on the move. And forget about using it against flying enemies, as it flies too low to be able to target them. Combine this with a piddly ammo pool of 3, and it's enough to make you wonder why this weapon even exists when Mr. Fungi does the same job, but better.

* SugarWiki/VisualEffectsOfAwesome: The trailers alone showcase what the new hardware of the [=PlayStation=] 5 is capable of producing. Ratchet's (and Rivet's) fur and Clank's shiny metal exterior are more detailed than ever and the environments are stunningly beautiful, detailed, and full of life, not to mention all the various effects employed in the midst of combat as well as when using rifts in the space-time continuum to seamlessly travel between completely different planets. It's to the point where it manages to far surpass the ''[[WesternAnimation/RatchetAndClank2016 Ratchet & Clank]]'' [[WesternAnimation/RatchetAndClank2016 movie]] in visuals which already qualified as an example of this trope.

** More like a perfectly good ''weapon'', but the Rift Inducer, despite the main theme of the game, is a no-show here. A shame since it's only ever appeared once in ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankUpYourArsenal Up Your Arsenal]]'', with the version from ''[[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankFutureACrackInTime A Crack in Time]]'' being a completely [[JustForPun different beast entirely]]. The only compensation is that the RYNO 8 works similarly to the ''Crack in Time'' version.
*** It's worth pointing out that the original Rift Inducer fired black holes, not dimensional wormholes.
** Captain Qwark's presence in this game is quite minimal in comparison to prior appearances, only being relegated to a cameo in the beginning and towards the end when he interacts with his AlternateSelf, Captain Quantum. [[JustifiedTrope Justified]] to an extent since Creator/JimWard wasn't exactly in the best of health to reprise the role (and had officially retired before production began), with Ward being [[TheOtherDarrin replaced]] by Scott Whyte in this game.

** A very brief moment but the catalyst for reality beginning to collapse is Ratchet taking a shot at the Dimensionator in an attempt to stop Nefarious, showing his impulsive and somewhat-reckless side that had been missing in the last few games and after the 2016 re-imagining turned him into a WideEyedIdealist. Indeed, his characterization here is more in line with his characterization in the ''Future'' series, compared to his ''2016'' counterpart.

* TransAudienceInterpretation: Fans have speculated that Rivet may be transgender due to her having a tail despite Insomniac previously stating that female Lombaxes do not have tails.

* CompleteMonster: [[DimensionLord Emperor Nefarious]] hails from an alternate dimension where he successfully achieved his goals of [[GalacticConqueror conquering the galaxy]]. Ruling his dimension as a dictatorship by imprisoning anybody for the pettiest of reasons, while [[UnwillingRoboticisation robotizing]] those who dare refuse to serve him, Nefarious also sends Warbots out to depopulate planets to make them easier to conquer. Returning after a conquest trip to find Dr. Nefarious having assumed command, Nefarious chooses to partner with him to wipe out the resistance, before attempting to destroy Rivet's home planet afterwards. Once Nefarious finds [[VictoryIsBoring victory to be boring]], he gets the idea to use his new Dimensionator to instead rule over every single dimension so that he will always win. Tricking Ratchet and friends into helping him locate the Dimensional Map by invading the planet Savali, Nefarious thanks his alternate counterpart for assisting him by setting out to conquer his dimension first against his partner's wishes. When he looks to be losing for the first time in his life, Nefarious tries to overclock the Dimensionator in [[SuicidalCosmicTemperTantrum an attempt to undo all of reality itself]].

While this has been somewhat mitigated by there being an alternate version of Nefarious involved in the plot, it hasn't stopped claims that the character has become overused in the franchise.

** Shockingly, the almighty RYNO 8 is actually a subversion of this trope. While it is no doubt ''very'' effective against normal enemies, it isn't anywhere near as effective against Bosses as it was in prior entries (e.g., the [[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankGoingCommando RYNO II]] and [[VideoGame/RatchetAndClankFutureACrackInTime V]]). You're better off with the Warmonger/Peacemaker, Buzz/Doom Blades, or the Negatron Collider/Large Negatron Collider instead.
