Too bad, Lugia is shafted before the battle can actually take place, while Kyogre only gets the spotlight for a single scene and is otherwise more or less forgotten amongst the other combatants.

** The legendaries present are all Pokémon that could be caught in ''Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire'', and among them is Lugia. You'd think this would be the perfect opportunity for Ho-Oh to get its long-awaited movie treatment (if only as a side character), but once more, Ho-Oh is a no-show.
* VideoGameMoviesSuck: ''Hoopa'' ranks up with ''Anime/PokemonGenesectAndTheLegendAwakened'' as one of the most fan-criticized ''Pokémon'' movies, largely due to the thin plot: outside the titular Clash of Ages (which itself has problems), there's very little of note going on. The writing (especially in the English dub) has also been criticized for being very hand-holding, [[ViewersAreMorons over-explaining every facet of the plot with constant exposition]], even when the onscreen action makes it obvious what's happening. And then there's the ending, which many perceive as a cop-out.

* DesignatedHero: Some fans began pointing the figure towards Ash and Hoopa as this. When Shadow Hoopa first flings a tower at them, Ash orders Pikachu to destroy the tower and not acknowledge the ramifications of killing the innocent people inside of it. Then, it was Hoopa who inspired Shadow Hoopa to summon legendaries by summoning them first. Rather than lead them into the desert where there will be less lives lost, Ash diverts the attack to the city streets where countless people could possibly die.

*** Why Dialga and Palkia couldn't fix this problem raises a few eyebrows.
*** To be fair however it's implied here and there in the franchise that Dialga and Palkia aren't able to fix every hole in the space-time continuum, most often the kinds made outside of their supervision. (The BigBad caused a distortion in space which Palkia couldn't fix in PokemonMysteryDungeonExplorers for example.) Whether or not this carries over to the anime canon remains to be seen.
