*** Nanako is the {{Woobie}} Queen of the game. How sad and lonely is she? Well, her Midnight Channel dungeon is a storybook Heaven filled with fluffy clouds, rainbows, marble and gold, and eventually the characters figure out why: somewhere deep inside, Nanako ''wants to die'' so she can see her mother again. ''[[TroublingUnchildhoodBehavior Did we mention]] [[HarmfulToMinors she's six years old?]]''

** [[spoiler:Adachi. On top of being the one responsible for people being tossed into the TV world, he also reveals that the only reason he joined the police was so he could use a gun.]]

* NeverTrustATrailer: From the intial stages of the anime, the first trailer paints ''Yosuke'' as a villain.
** Granted, for those who've played the game, it's pretty obvious that it's actually his Shadow.

* CompleteMonster[=/]] FromNobodyToNightmare: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted]] with [[spoiler:Mitsuo]]. While he ''did'' kill Morooka, he ultimately never becomes any more dangerous than the next kid. [[{{ThatOneBoss/Atlus}} His Shadow, on the other hand.....]]

* CompleteMonster / FromNobodyToNightmare: [[SubvertedTrope Subverted.]] While [[spoiler:Mitsuo]] ''did'' kill Morooka, he ultimately never becomes any more dangerous than the next kid. [[{{ThatOneBoss/Atlus}} His Shadow, on the other hand.....]]

** The TakeThat to ''{{Twilight}}'' was most likely a creation of the translator.

** The main character being renamed Yu Narukami in the upcoming anime (where he was always known to fans by his manga name of Souji Seta) is starting to show shades of this as well.

* NeverTrustATrailer: From the intial stages of the anime, the first trailer paints ''Yosuke'' as a villian.

* FanNickname:
** Souji Seta for the protagonist, taken from the Manga Adaptation, as well as Brotag (frequently used on a... [[FourChan certain unscrupulous imageboard]]) due to his many friendships, especially his close one with Yosuke, and Banchou ("gang leader") in Japan, because of his persona Izanagi's uncanny resemblance to a stereotypical Banchou due to its BadassLongcoat (see [[http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Izanagi here]])
** Captain Pistol, referring to Naoto.
** Also Mr. Pringles, referring to the King sub-type of shadow.
** Yosuke is also affectionately nicknamed as ''Brosuke'', due to his "Bros before hos" Level 10 S. Link event.
*** Yosuke's name seems to lend itself especially well to this: Moesuke, Failsuke, Closetsuke...
*** Yosuke also has a new nickname thanks to so many of his {{HoYay}} scenes: Yosgay. Also doesn't help that he has the Yaoi submissive term in his name.
** Also, "Cabbage Adachi", mainly due to his dialogue if you talk to him at Junes at certain points. He speaks passionately about having a cabbage-centric dinner because he can't afford much else.
** People refer to Yukiko as [[KillItWithFire Amagidyne]] or 'Drunkiko', due to the [[CrowningMomentOfFunny Kings Game scene.]]
** Ryotaro Brojima. Mostly because you are the most likely to be the murderer, but are above suspicion
** The Inaba Scoobies for the Investigation Team, if the WMG and IJBM pages for this game are anything to go by.

** The main character. Igor says that it's hlis thoughts that shaped the Velvet Room into the form it has in this game, and he made it into a ''space limo.''

* UnfortunateImplications: The player can eventually sleep with [[spoiler: Naoto, Rise, or Ayane]] who are all only 15.
** Technically speaking, that's only referring to their ages when the protagonist first arrives at Inaba, since [[spoiler: Rise and Naoto at least]] have already turned 16 by the time they [[spoiler: join the party]]. However, this and the fact that the protagonist is only about a year older himself don't necessarily make the implications any less unfortunate.

* ItWasHisSled: Naoto's Gender. It was actually suppose to be a surprise, but between [[FanPreferredCouple all the fanart pairing herself with the Protagonist]] and American VA's poor job of disguising her gender it couldn't be helped. However, it is ''much'' easier in Japan to have a female voice to sound like a male's. [[NeonGenesisEvangelion Shinji Ikari]] is very convincingly voiced by a female in the Japanese dub, for instance. In English, though, it's far less common, unless the character is a very young child.

* TearJerker:
** [[spoiler:Nanako's apparent "death" (really just a bunch of laymen overreacting to asystole)]]. But [[spoiler:she recovers]] if you [[spoiler: don't give in to your desire for revenge]] (i.e. not get the [[MultipleEndings worst ending]]).
** [[spoiler:The final true boss battle where your friends take the instant death spell meant for you three times, all while Rise is screaming and crying in the background.]]
** Can a song be a TearJerker? Because [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ruxws6DE4io&feature=related Corridor]] is ''soul-crushing''.
** [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ja7qx99GRp4&feature=related Alone.]] This song (spoilers in the comments) reduces anyone with a soul to TEARS the first time you hear it in game.
*** Which both have nothing on [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=463Us587Z9o&feature=related Heaven.]] [[spoiler: Poor Nanako...]]
** Hisano's backstory, combined with a dose of AdultFear. So, your husband has [[strike:[[NotUsingTheZWord Alzheimer's]]]] a disease, you speak to him, and the response is [[LaserGuidedAmnesia "Who are you?"]]

* MisaimedFandom: A surprisingly large number of players believe that the cast weren't actually drinking alcohol in Club Escapade just because [[KidDetective Naoto]] stated (with conviction) that the bar doesn't serve alcohol anymore. These players seem to have completely missed the game's {{Anvilicious}} moral of "confronting/searching for the truth and not accepting the easy answer in front of your eyes." Details: [[spoiler:'''Were they really drunk?''' Yes. Yukiko isn't the sort to get drunk off the atmosphere, plus she and Rise were ''completely plastered'' by the end. '''Didn't the bar stop serving alcohol?''' Nope! Remember the monk Mutatsu from Persona 3 (Towers at Club Escapade)? He said "The more you try to act like an adult, the more you seem like a child." and [[KidDetective Naoto]] ''asked a nightclub if they serve alcohol.'' The bartender was just messing with her because this really shouldn't concern her. '''So how'd they get the drinks?''' Simple: Rise. She has the experience and connections, and the club owed her a favor. She even says "I told them to make them non-alcoholic" - ie. she needs to ''specify'' to ''avoid'' getting booze. And I'd bet your eyes were rolling too when she first said that line.]]

** The Goho-M item carries over a lovely little pun about 'going home' that was built into the Japanese name of the item. Don't ask us what it was because we can't remember.

* CrackPairing: Japanese fandom has a large following for Adachi/aged-up Nanako, however little sense it makes.
* EarWorm: Notably the main theme song "Pursuing My True Self, "Your Affection," and "Jika Net Tanaka." The Junes and Tanaka's Amazing Commodities theme are also contenders.
