*** One thing about Naoto - if we assume she's been living her life until the events of the game as a pre-testosterone FTM, then her voice actually works. One major problem pre-T transmen have is that their voices have a tendency to sound either like a prepubescent boy or a girl trying hard and failing to drop her voice.

You\'re reading the situation wrong.

** [[spoiler: Naoto's is even worse because of the fact that the player can ask her to act more feminine, which leads to her wearing a schoolgirl outfit, kinda almost like forcing her to reject her more masculine personality. Ayane's is almost as bad due to being the TokenLoli]].

** Good gravy, notable in that Teddie probably has probably caused the growth of more shaking trees than the entire ''casts'' of other games in the franchise, as even the [[TheReveal reveals]] about him only really serve to open even more questions than answers about him, in a franchise known for thinking everything through. There's a fair amount of suspicion that this has been done deliberately [[CashCowFranchise to encourage people to buy a possible upcoming Persona 5]]. [[spoiler:There's even some theories out there that say that Teddie is [[strike:Nanako's]] just about every Persona 4 character's (and even a fairly believable one that he is the shadow of a Persona 3 character) shadow and even up to being this setting's equivalent of LouisCypher.]]
** Not nearly as bad as Teddie, but Naoto's spawned a few of her own. The idea that she's not just an {{Expy}} of Raidou or the ''Persona 3'' Protagonist but is in fact ''related'' to either character (or ''both'') is the most prominent. The latter is not helped at all by [[spoiler: the brief revelation that her parents died in an ''auto accident'' when she was "little"; checking the dates does in fact allow for the P3 Protagonist and her to be related]].
** And if Raidou the XIV had a child when he was about forty or so, and ''that'' child did the same, the grandchild would be Naoto's age. So if Raidou did, and lived into his nineties (and he would have too given that there are 14 Raidou's in 1200 years an he inherits the title at 17.), then he could be the detective grandfather Naoto refers to. And we know there's a "Kuzonoha Detective Agency" in Persona 2, which by WordOfGod is in the same universe as this one... Chie's (dub created) note about how her family is like the Kuzonohas and how her shadow has Kyouji Kuzunoha's outfit don't hurt (help?) matters either.

** Souji Seta for the protagonist, taken from the Manga Adaptation, as well as Brotag (frequently used on a... [[FourChan certain unscrupulous imageboard]]) due to his many friendships, especially his close one with Yosuke, and Banchou ("gang leader") in Japan, because of his persona Izanagi's uncanny resemblance to a stereotypical Banchou due to its BadassLongcoat (see [[http://megamitensei.wikia.com/wiki/Izanagi here]])

* {{Fanon}}: Being a HeroicMime, the protagonist's personality is ultimately determined by the player, but some personality traits have become reoccuringly in fanfiction include;
** BadassBookworm
** DeadpanSnarker: His dialogue options tend to head towards OnlySaneMan most of the time, but sometimes head towards this.
** NiceGuy
** OnlySaneMan: Literal non-example, he's the only member of the party whose persona does not stem from having resolved his own mental issues (he hasn't got any). If you pay attention, most of his dialogue choices tend to edge towards this as well.

* HoYay:
** Kanji. His EvilCounterpart boss is even [[spoiler: a representation of his repressed sexuality -- which is actually his desire for acceptance.]]
** Plenty with Chie. The conversation on Saki's appearance on the Midnight Channel (My soulmate is a girl?). Who was Yukiko's ''Prince''? ''Chie''!
** Also, Teddie is totally gay for you. Seriously. Talk to him before you leave Inaba and you'll get a conversation in which Teddie ''offers to take off his outfit for you.''
** Yosuke has more than a few moments with ''you.'' "I'll invite Daisuke; don't want to look like we're dating." "You look like you're good with your hands--uh, never mind." "If I had to choose, I'd choose you! You're so handsome and reliable! Tee-hee!"
*** The entire Magician Rank 9 scene. It has the wonderfully ambiguous "I have family and friends... [[MyFriendsAndZoidberg and you]]," as well as "You're special to me." Not to mention the Rank 8 scene. If you choose particular answers in Rank 7 AND "I understand" in this one, you will get the option to hug him (and I mean the around-the-waist kind) after the rank goes up.
*** Not to mention the Rank 5 scene where he awkwardly asks whether you keep [[PornStash the goods]] under your futon and if you've ever invited a girl into your room. If you answer the latter in the negative, Yosuke says "I guess you're more of a man's man than I thought!" and the narrator informs you that "Yosuke looks happy..."

''Persona 3'' was a little better received in Japan and is generally considered the better of the two games, and got ''far'' more spinoff merch due to the incredible demand; ''Persona 4'', meanwhile, still got a decent reception but not a great one and not much secondary merch. The opposite holds true in America and Europe, though; while ''Persona 3'' did basically bring real mainstream attention onto the franchise, ''Persona 4'' reviewed '''much''' higher and is generally considered by everyone to be a whisper away from total perfection and quickly became the best-selling SMT title in the West ''ever'' (which actually had the effect of making ''Persona 4'' the best-selling SMT game ever due to worldwide sales).

** [[spoiler:Kunino-Sagiri]] will "save" you!
** Also [[spoiler:Shadow Teddie.]]
** [[spoiler: Shadow Rise, especially the attack animations. She starts literally ''humping'' the pole at one point. With squishing noises.]] Completely creepy.

* ToyShip: Errand Boy and Spacy Girl.
* WhatAnIdiot: So your nephew, who you've suspected for a while of involving himself in your murder case, [[spoiler:suddenly receives a threatening letter saying someone close to him will die if he doesn't butt out]]? Why, obviously the right thing to do is [[spoiler:''leave your seven year-old daughter at home alone while you interrogate him at the police station'']]. ''Awesome'' parenting skills, Dojima! Of course, if you follow his and Nanako's social links, you'll learn that parenting really is ''not'' one of Dojima's strong points.
* {{Woolseyism}}:
** Teddie's verbal tic was changed from adding the word "-kuma" to words in his sentences to making bad puns, many involving the word "bear" in some way. This arguably counts for his name, too, since the connotations of a cutesy bear calling itself "Kuma" ("Bear" in Japanese) don't translate well into English.
** Also, changing "Mayonaka TV" to "The Midnight Channel".
** "Everyday Younglife Junes" to "Every day's great at your Junes!"
** You get to engage in some Woolseyfication of your own if you take the part-time job as a translator. You'll often be asked about how you want to translate something culture-specific, like idioms or children's speech patterns, and basically have two options - [[BlindIdiotTranslation do it literally]], or creatively improvise. [[{{Anvilicious}} You have a chance to get paid MUCH better if you improvise]] (assuming you don't [[{{Macekre}} screw it up]]).
** The item that instantly transports you out of a dungeon was originally called "Kaereiru", from the Japanese "kaeru", meaning "return." Stateside, it's called "Goho-M." This also counts as a StealthPun that most people don't get until they say "Goho-M" out loud. Go on. Try it.
** The TakeThat to ''{{Twilight}}'' was most likely a creation of the translator.
** The final scene for the Fortune social link originally about [[{{Bokukko}} the choice of pronoun]], is changed to [[PronounTrouble the pitch of voice.]]
** The mention of Naoto's family being like Raidou Kuzunoha the 14th is the result of the translators lacking any other option to translate Chie's reference to a Japanese book series about a family of LegacyCharacter detectives. Does not stop the line from fueling insane levels of EpilepticTrees.

** Technically speaking, that's only referring to their ages when the protagonist first arrives at Inaba, since [[spoiler: Rise and Naoto at least]] have already turned 16 by the time they [[spoiler: join the party]]. However, this and the fact that the protagonist is only about a year older himself don't necessarily make the implications any less unfortunate.

* FridgeBrilliance: There really is no reason for the protagonist to be able to summon multiple personas, besides being a GodModSue. But then you realize that a Persona is a manifestation of your true self. Thus, EVERYONE who plays the game is the protagonist, which means DIFFERENT personalities.
* FridgeHorror: Though [[spoiler: its implied in the ending]], there might be another clue that hints that Midnight Channel [[spoiler: Has been around for a LONG time.]] Remember the paintings of those people on the spiral at the entrance of the Midnight Channel? [[spoiler: It could be people who were murdered before. And this painting is there even when you first enter the Midnight Channel. This reinforces the idea that the events of the game has happened before. And by the looks of the numbers of people, its was A LOT.]]
