* SugarWiki/SuperlativeDubbing: The English dub does very well with its casting. Andrew Love captures Takeo's soft-spoken, romantic moments and his booming overreactions with perfection. Tia Ballard is appropriately adorable for Rinko, and Austin Tindle, although mostly monotone for Suna's TheStoic personality, can also pull of his OnlySaneMan nature without a hitch.

** Suna's complete lack of interest in girls (or boys for that matter) has resulted in theorizing that he could be {{asexual|ity}}.

** There are also many fans who see Takeo's best friend, Suna, as {{asexual|ity}}.

* SomeAnvilsNeedToBeDropped:
** Everyone's disgusted reaction towards [[HateSink the groper]] that harassed Yamato and Takeo's fury when the jerk has the gall to suggest she was "asking for it" because of the way she was dressed. Considering what a problem gropers are in Japan and the difficulty their victims often have dealing with them, because of societal pressure never to make a fuss, the message that it was ''entirely'' the groper's fault and that what he did was absolutely ''not'' harmless but actually criminal, was important and significant.
** When some boys in the class begin talking about only wanting to go to the beach to ogle the girls in swimsuits, Takeo loudly tells them to just not come since the girls are wearing swimsuits ''to swim'' not because they want people to stare at them creepily. When one of the boys tries to insinuate Takeo obviously is going to ogle his girlfriend when she's in a swimsuit Takeo shuts that down too, pointing out that Yamato will be wearing a swimsuit to ''swim'' so of course he's not going to perv on her for it.
** There's nothing wrong with Takeo's looks, he's perfectly attractive and it is instead the standard of beauty that's toxic. It became more apparent when the series was exported to the US and fans pointed out that had the series been made in the States, Takeo would be a hunky LovableJock and BigManOnCampus while Suna would be his weird nerdy friend. The live action film also drives home with its casting that in real life Takeo would be an absolute hunk rather than a {{Gonk}}.

* HoYay: Between Suna and Takeo. Takeo tries to practice kissing with Suna (albeit with plastic wrap between them) and the two are completely inseparable with Suna often being forced to be there when Yamato and Takeo have their dates. Suna also doesn't seem to have any interest in dating or girls and refuses to deal with people that badmouth Takeo.
