* AlternateCharacterInterpretation: There's a lot of ways Rarity's behavior can be read. The episode's resolution is framed as her needing to accept that Spike has friends besides her. However, the episode glosses over that she very often takes advantage of Spike's crush on her to get him to do things for her. From the scenes of the rest of the Mane Six filling in for Spike, it's gotten to the point where Rarity can't even do her daily errands without Spike doing the heavy lifting -- ''literally''. Does this mean that she's not nearly as generous as she thinks she is? Did she notice what was happening but not care until it inconvenienced her? Did she think it was okay up until Spike complained about it? Or is this merely her not noticing how much she needs to show her appreciation?

HE. IS. A. CHILD.

** This episode was a chance to provide resolution on "Sparity", a ShipTease subplot that's been going since the first episode. Whether you think they should get together or not, this episode that examines their friendship in the vein of "Rarity realizes how important Spike is to her life" was a chance to elevate the relationship to something deeper or make it clear that they'll only ever be friends. Instead, by the episode's end, their friendship is back to the status quo.

* HarsherInHindsight: With Rarity obsessing over and essentially stalking Spike, a child, for the majority of the episode, it becomes this after a Bronycon staff member was exposed as a pedophile. It doesn't help when Dragon Dropped includes a scene with Rarity bribing Spike with convention tickets

Needs citation.

* UnfortunateImplications: Rarity's behavior in trying to get Spike (a child) back to her and trying to keep him to herself, to the point of hovering over him in his sleep in the middle of the night, is very...[[{{Ephebophile}} creepy]], to say the least

* AlternateAesopInterpretation: It could be seen as a cautionary tale to not wait too long to pursue a relationship with someone, and that if the two of you like each other you should ''act on it''. If not, you risk the person moving on and/or finding someone else, which could render your chances at a RelationshipUpgrade being gone for good. Even though Rarity and Spike manage to patch things up in the end, now there's a ThirdWheel in their relationship and it will likely never be the same again.

** Fluttershy suggests that Rarity should let Spike know how much she appreciates having him in her life. Cut to Spike sleeping, when suddenly he's woken up by Rarity standing over him with a grin.

Not YMMV.

* TheDogBitesBack: Unintentionally, Spike do that. After all the times Rarity flirted with other ponies (and non-ponies) and triggered Spike's jealous, for once, it's Rarity who gets jealousy of Spike hanging out with another friend.

The Dog Bites Back is not YMMV.

* TheDogBitesBack: A non mean-spirited example. Rarity always flirted with many ponies (and non-ponies) in the show, comics and in the movie, which triggered Spike's jealous. For once, is Rarity who's jealous of Spike choosing hang out with Gabby instead her.

* TheDogBitesBack: A not mean-spirited case. Rarity flirted with many ponys and non-ponies in the show (not mention the movie and the comics), which always triggered Spike's jealous. This case in particular invert their roles and, for once, is Rarity who's jealous of Spike ignoring her for Gabby.

1: That's not a YMMV trope. 2: That entry almost feels like it's saying Rarity deserves to be punished for not choosing Spike.

* ThrowTheDogABone: To Spike. For many times, Rarity tried to find love or woo suitors, while Spike tried to compete or, with no choice, even help Rarity. Here, considering the subtext, Spike found someone else with common background and interests, to the point Rarity isn't his top priority and he's happy hanging out with Gabby. Rarity, on the other hand, just can't deal with it. {{Call It Karma}}.
