* AssPull: The episode establishes that spells to change somepony's mane are very complicated, tricky, and even dangerous, and Starlight and Twilight's magic and Zecora's alchemy are powerless to help Rarity. This is despite the fact that in "[[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E6BoastBusters Boast Busters]]", Twilight had a spell to grow mustaches and Trixie could turn Rarity's mane green. Not to mention that with all the other magic Twilight and Starlight can pull off (as a very brief list -- shield spells, illusions, teleportation, transmutation, transfiguration, time travel), it's rather silly that for some unexplained reasons, spells to change manes are just too difficult for them to pull off.

* AssPull: Using magic to regrow Rarity's damaged mane, either by Zecora's alchemy or Twilight and Starlight's magic, is basically impossible. Despite all the ''other'' incredible feats they can pull off (as a very brief list -- shield spells, teleportation, transmutation, transfiguration, time travel), they just can't fix Rarity's mane. In-universe the reason given is that mane magic is apparently just very difficult if not impossible; the ''real'' reason of course is that if they could use magic to restore her mane, there wouldn't be an episode. This also ignores that mustache-growing spells [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS1E6BoastBusters have been shown]], [[Recap/MyLittlePonyFriendshipIsMagicS3E5MagicDuel twice]].

Twilight and Starlight ''do'' grow a lot of hair (Spike has to snip it off the walls and cart it away) but they can't regrow Rarity's specific mane.

(Other prominent examples are the bomber jackets worn by the Wonderbolts under Commander Easy Glider and their modern counterparts worn by the current generation of Wonderbolts, both of which are clearly fleece-lined.) Given most sapient species are vegetarians, surely Equestrian leather isn't [[GenuineHumanHide made from ungulate hide]]? (In all fairness to Rarity, her vest could be denim, also common in punk culture and quite vegetarian-friendly.)
