* RescuedFromTheScrappyHeap: A lot of people who weren't fond of Kyoichiro's character, especially with his obsession with Mutsumi, later became a fond of him as the series progress.

*** After a medicine given to Taiyo post-mission turns him into a baby, the whole of the Yozakura family finishes whatever missions they had in progress to come home and check on him. (This includes Shinzo sinking an entire pirate fleet in the middle of the ocean and then swimming home.) The whole family then proceeds to become enamored with baby Taiyo, even including Kyoichiro, which conflicts with his normal hatred of Taiyo so much that he basically goes catatonic on his feet. Even the self proclaimed child disliker Shion makes room for him to sit in her lap while she games.

* AuthorsSavingThrow: The series was initially criticized for sidelining the Yozakura family outside of Taiyo, Mutsumi, and Kyoichiro in favor of introducing new characters that seem like they'll be important before they end up getting sidelined too. After Taiyo and Mutusmi get married, this doesn't happen as frequently.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter: One of the most common complaints about the series is that, aside from the main trio of Taiyo, Mutsumi and Kyoichiro, the Yozakura's are given very little in the way of attention or significance, often vanishing for significant amounts of times and not getting to do much beyond their basic gimmicks, with it not being until over 30 chapters in that one of them gets a proper ADayInTheLimelight. The fact that the series starts to tip into LoadsAndLoadsOfCharacters doesn't help.
