Darkseid would make a perfect [[DuelingMovies counterpoint to Loki]], so I doubt they'd waste him on the first movie. Or even if Nolan and Snyder don't intend to make this film part of that mythos, they are planning a trilogy; why break out the big guns on the first movie, when Zod and Lex are more well-known to audiences, and comparatively weaker than other villains who will present bigger challenges in the sequels?

Zod is well known to fans of the original movies and was prominent in ''{{Smallville}}'', and given that Lex has been overdone some wanted a villain who hasn't been on the big screen before. Darkseid was likely just wishful thinking, but Brainiac was higher up the list anyway and would have been a more unique villain.
