Win The Crowd is now a disambig

* WinTheCrowd:
** [[spoiler:Riko's confession to Chika]] might have developed a beacon of hope for the Yuri fans who wanted a ''canonically gay couple'' in the ''Love Live!'' series... [[spoiler:well, until later episodes barely mention their romantic relationship.]]
*** For [=YohaRiko=] fans, an official tribute episode for the pairing won many of their hearts.
*** As for [=YouRiko=] shippers, You [[spoiler:unexpectedly confessing to Riko]] is also considered as one of the best moments.
** One of the trailers for the ''Over the Rainbow'' movie had the sudden spoken word "marriage" had drew more attention to the Yuri fans, which they hoped for a genuine same-sex relationship between the Third Years, eventually jossing the queerbaiting once and for all. [[spoiler:This is unfortunately not the case.]]
** To some fans who greatly dislikes Korean music, the Shibuya Note Awards 2018 voted Aqours as 1st place with {{Music/TWICE}} [[TakeThat being beaten in second place]].

** Due to voice actresses taking their own [[ActorShipping shipping]] UpToEleven, almost everyone in the fandom refuses to acknowledge the [=VAs=] as straight people thanks to that.
** Many fans (including shippers) are against any [[IncestYayShipping incest relationship between Ruby and Dia]].

But that means she ultimately was developed and thus, not wasted. It seems like someone wrote this back when there was still only one season and the second season changed the situation someone decided they should “fix” the entry, when they really should just have removed it.

*** Ruby was this through Season 1. All of her character niches from Dengeki canon were surgically extracted from her and given to other characters[[note]]In the Dengeki manga, Ruby is a costume designer, childhood friends with Hanamaru, the straight man among the first years, a long-time school idol fan, and afraid of dogs; these were all passed down to You, Yoshiko, Hanamaru, Dia, and Riko in the anime respectively, although Ruby is also a novice costume designer in the anime[[/note]], and those that weren't can't be implemented anyways (such as DoesNotLikeMen, in an anime where males are background characters at best), leaving her as nothing but a SatelliteCharacter to her big sister Dia. She gets fleshed out in Season 2 with a two-part character arc alongside Leah from Saint Snow.

They Wasted A Perfectly Good Plot is meant to be used only when a plotline doesn’t get developed despite plenty of potential, never for plotlines that are developed, but not in a way fans like. Many of the entries here are just about fans complaining they didn’t get stuff they wanted, as if the meaning of the trope was “failure to satisfy fans”. Cameos are not plotlines, so they not happening has nothing to do with this trope. And some of the entries are just repeating what’s already written in They Wasted A Perfectly Good Character, which misses the point of those two tropes being separated.

** You's arc in Season 1 Episode 10. Due to the fact that she was so far the only character without a backstory and little character traits other than being Chika's friend, a common fandom theory and hope would be that she would have an arc near the end of the series where she, [[GreenEyedMonster fed up about Riko slowly taking over her place in Chika's life]], would reach her RageBreakingPoint and explode at either one or both, then leave the group, cueing a reconciliation to end the season or possibly end the season on a cliffhanger. Not only does this not happen, the minimal anxiety she had expressed toward Riko is resolved pitifully easily, and she ends her CharacterFocus episode in almost exactly the same place that she started.

** Fans who hoped for a possible µ's cameo from ''start to finish'' (especially Season 2) had their dreams crushed as neither of them didn't actually appear in the end. All the fans could hope for was their actual appearance in the ''Sunshine!!'' movie...[[spoiler: and it ''still'' ended up not happening, as detailed below.]]
** While Season 2 is generally seen as a better attempt at an overarching story in the franchise, it also made the cast over-inflation extremely apparent, which can't be helped due to the 9-member format. Of the entire second season, only five characters get a CharacterFocus across three CharacterFocus episodes total, but only three of those characters actually have any meaningful character development, and four of the nine main cast members (You, Riko, Hanamaru, Yoshiko) wind up [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter totally wasted]] due to their irrelevance to the overarching plot. Conversely, the characters that did matter to the plot (Chika and the third years) get a high amount of focus, which, depending on the viewer, may push the third years into SpotlightStealingSquad territory due to a significant chunk of screentime being dedicated to them.
** The ''Over the Rainbow'' Movie had some:
*** Several fans believed that the movie should have given their favorite rare pairs a chance to shine on-screen, although the closest thing they can find is both You and Yoshiko doing dance training together.
*** As for the conflict of Mari's arranged marriage, many fans believe that the argument should have been taken seriously, instead of relying on one of their songs to change her mind. Meanwhile, the yuri fans feel that Mari should have confessed that she truly loved Kanan in front of her mother as well, and in doing so solidifying the confirmation of the [=KanaMari=] pairing.
*** After ''2 seasons of teasing'', '''''[[spoiler:none]]''''' [[spoiler:of the µ's members made a physical cameo in the film, especially for the fans who were hoping for them to eventually return to see Aqours' performance in the final act, or even perform together with them for their last animated performance. ** Yoshiko is the largest example of this trope, similarly to Nico. She's one of the most popular characters, but also one of the most divisive, for her {{chuunibyou}} behavior; some people love and find her as a very interesting character as a result of this, others downright hate her (or just like her the least among the main cast) for it, since [[StaticCharacter she doesn't break out of it a lot]]. This mostly has to do with the way she was handled in season 2, as it [[{{Flanderization}} exaggerated her chuuni persona]] compared to season 1. Following the conclusion of season 2, many fans were split about her; one side still appreciates her [[ContraltoOfDanger dynamic singing voice]] and like her RunningGag, while the latter feel that her running gag was overused and caused her to fall victim to the worse side of flanderization, with [[TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodCharacter no meaningful impact on either the plot or any of the other characters]].
** Kanan is a complicated example. She is liked by many people for being sort of a CoolBigSis to the Second Years during the first episodes, for being a [[OnlySaneWoman pretty mature person that doesn't work herself up about stuff]], and for being a CuddleBug. The LesYay moments she shares with [[ChildhoodFriends Mari]] are also interesting and fun, whereas her status as the resident MsFanservice has also attracted some people. There are, however, a big number of detractors that dislike her for refusing to reconcile with Mari during the first episodes, and being a {{jerkass}} to her for seemingly no reason; even after the reasons for this come afloat [[spoiler:(not wanting Mari to hurt herself further during a qualifiers' performance, and forcing her to accept her chance to study abroad)]], people feel it was too much of a DisproportionateRetribution. Although episode 9 [[spoiler:(on which Kanan takes [[ArmorPiercingSlap a huge slap to the face]] from Mari [[WhatTheHellHero when the latter learns what happened]], but refuses to hit her friend and '''finally''' reconciles with her)]] had most fans genuinely forgiving her after all what happened, some people would {{never live it down}}. Finally, while she does {{subvert|edTrope}} CharacterRerailment later on in episode 6 of Season 2, the fact it implied she would go back to her old jerkass ways didn't help matters, either.
** Fortunately for the Second Years, unlike the original ''Love Live!'', they aren't hit with this as a group as much as the former Second Years were due to the anime focusing more on Aqours as a whole. However, they're still divisible in their own right.

** Song centers are a particular sore spot for the fanbase since the anime tends to [[SpotlightStealingSquad give a lot of focus to Chika]] on the insert songs, with Lantis/Sunrise also giving her a lot of focus in the promotional videos. One side argues that she steals the focus that other characters should have (especially with songs such as "Mijuku Dreamer" and "Awaken the power" - that are the climax of the character development for the 3rd years and Ruby/Leah, respectively, so it's argued that Chika shouldn't receive any focus to begin with); add to this that characters like Ruby, Mari and Hanamaru have barely had the opportunity to be the center in songs. The other side argues that Chika's prominence in songs isn't that extreme (for an example, she ''does'' have a few more lines, due to repetition, in "Mijuku Dreamer" than the other girls who ''aren't'' the third years, who are very obviously the focus of the song); there is also the fact that Chika ''is'' the leader of the group and is pretty much guaranteed to get more centers than the others, much like Honoka leads the number of song centers in Muse.

** Is Season 2 an improvement over the first? While most would say this marks episode 8 as the Beard Growing moment for the show, success in the overall series is somewhat questionable. ** You's arc in episode 10. ** While Season 2 is generally seen as a better attempt at an overarching story in the franchise, it also made the cast over-inflation extremely apparent, which can't be helped due to the 9-member format. ** Despite the reduced use of UsefulNotes/{{Japanese Honorifics}} in English compared to Japanese, the English dub still needed to convey Dia's concerns about getting closer to the other girls in Episode 4 of Season 2. It did so by changing dialogue to incorporate various terms of endearment. The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2BVNnj6qk0w results]] have some [[HoYay interesting implications]] when interpreted a certain way, however.

*** You went this way ''hard'', especially in Season 2. She ends up being one of the least developed characters in the entire series, thanks to a combination of factors such as [[SpotlightStealingSquad the show pushing Riko's screentime at You's expense in Season 1]], lack of defined motivation for joining Aqours beyond wanting to do something together with Chika (which also makes her a SatelliteCharacter by extension), a minor CharacterFocus that ''accomplishes nothing'', and a straight up lack of meaningful screentime or dialogue in Season 2 (which lead to the fandom joke that "You is the new Kanan"). It says something when Saint Snow, the ''rival group'', not only gets a better CharacterFocus than her, but it actually gives them more character development than her. This has led to many fans perceiving her as the ''most underutilized character'' across both μ's and Aqours.

* AmericansHateTingle:
** You consistently ranks on the top of polls in Japan (her fanarts also outnumber everyone in Sunshine), in large part due to Shuka Saito's charisma. In the west though, where exposure is almost entirely via the anime, reception is mixed due to her being OutOfFocus often, with many considering her little more than a SatelliteCharacter for Chika.

*** Chika is liked for being even more of a GenkiGirl than Honoka was, and for having a pronounced CharacterDevelopment throughout the anime; [[DynamicCharacter she learns to become a school idol while differentiating her group from µ's]], and is considered by some fans to be a better leader than Honoka was. She is, however, disliked for still being too similar to Honoka while trying to copy from her at first; this feeling comes more from both Honoka fans and haters, some of which have called her a worse and more selfish leader than the former. Some other people also find her genki girl tendencies to be overbearing.

* WinBackTheCrowd: Episode 8 saved the series in many fans' eyes. It expanded the third years' background (even offering [[OutOfFocus Kanan]] some much needed screentime, and cementing Dia as a CoolBigSis) and gave Aqours [[spoiler: a harsh result in the Love Live selection (they get ''zero'' votes) as well as a necessary lesson about how trying to be like µ's won't take them any further]], and was overall a [[TearJerker tear-jerking]] yet well-done episode.
