* EightDeadlyWords: A complaint leveled against the story, especially during the web novel's ProlongedPrologue. Kumoko is not an especially engaging character on her own and it takes 120 chapters before she ever meets another intelligent being, and even then the conversation is short. Many readers give up early as a result.
* {{Moe}}: An {{Adorkable}} spider with the mind of a {{Hikikomori}} highschool girl? Pretty much the reason why the series got noticed. The fact that the manga made her a bright pink with a more cartoonish art style accentuates it.
* MoralEventHorizon: Buirimis's method of "earning Razraz's loyalty", by magically compelling him to kill and eat his beloved sister ''universally'' destroyed any sympathy the readers had for him, if not for the sheer atrocity of the act, then by the stupidity of it, in violating one of the biggest rules on the Evil Overlord List. "When I have a monster or powerful animal in my thrall, I will treat it kindly, with decency and respect, so in the event that the control is broken, it will not immediately turn on me." In fact, most thought him dying at Wrath's hand was getting off way too easy.
* RootingForTheEmpire: You'll be hard pressed to find readers who are bigger fans of Shun than Kumoko/Shiraori. He's pretty clearly morally in the right, but the dorky spider girl is so sympathetic and funny that most people overlook her numerous flaws.

I know YMMV and all but this is actually addressed specifically. She's a Stepford Smiler and severely traumatized.

* AngstWhatAngst: Kumoko was a lonely, isolated girl before being reborn as a spider, where she was nearly eaten by her new mother and later forced to kill her brother in self-defense. She responds with aplomb, accepting what she's become and focusing on making the most of the situation. This extends to most situations she finds herself in throughout the story. Even her moral quandaries when it comes to killing and eating humans are short-lived.
** Until it is revealed that she was actually [[spoiler:[[TomatoInTheMirror a normal spider before reincarnating]]]]. Even then her response is understated until chapter 263 when, recuperating from [[DrunkOnMilk a caffeine hangover]], she considers how messed up her existence is.

Internet Backdraft is now Flame Bait and being dewicked per TRS.

* InternetBackdraft: As expected, the usage of the 3D animation for Kumoko (and the rest of the creatures) does not bode well to the fandom.

* UnfortunateImplications: Granted, there are other factors at play, but Buirimis is supposed to be considered sympathetic for thinking another race are nothing but dumb animals as a result of little more than LanguageBarrier?

* CounterpartComparison: Several people not familiar with this story compare Kumoko with Rimuru from ''LightNovel/ThatTimeIGotReincarnatedAsASlime''. After all, both are characters from Earth who died and reincarnated as what would be considered a [[{{Mook}} weak monster]], they appeared in a cave with monsters and met a dragon there. The type of adventures they live and their personalities are not quite the same though.
