* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: A gloomy and sexualized world where you can find just one unambiguously sane and moral character, while every other character has at least one AxCrazy scene? Yumeko especially brings this forth, being a main character that acts more like a villain.

** Ikeshima Midari has become quite popular due to the fact that she is considered too crazy even by the standards of the manga. The anime goes even further, turning the theory of fans that she masturbates thinking about Yumeko into reality. Thus, she got her own spin-off after Mary.

** It's kind of funny to consider how Creator/{{Mappa}} adapted a work where women are portrayed as artful and cynical temptresses after they created the more positive and idealistic ''Anime/YuriOnIce'' about a strong male "friendship". Interestingly, Sayo Yamamoto is the director of both ''Kakegurui'''s opening and ''Yuri!!! on Ice''.

** In the anime, having Yumemite be defeated by Sumika singing something as cliche as AmazingGrace (a genre of song that's not particularly in her voice actress Creator/AyahiTakagaki's wheelhouse either) comes off as more ridiculous than showing off Sumika's "superior" singing skills.

** in the Live-Action version, Mahiro Takasugi plays the OnlySaneMan in contrast to one of his early tv roles as Mitsuzane Kureshima, one of the most psychotic characters not only [[Series/KamenRiderGaim in his own series]] but also in the whole ''Series/KamenRider'' series in general.

* HoYay: Almost always deliberately, not to mention that if you do not have enough of this [[http://i.imgur.com/zv2oySJ.jpg between Jabami and other girls]], then in the adaptation's opening she even ScrewYourself.
** Yumeko and Mary [[https://pp.userapi.com/c639724/v639724020/3dbbe/6gKw-S6X_Ko.jpg have so much of this]] that their theoretical couple is not only OTP in fandom, but also formal {{Fanon}}. Weights also add to the fact that the author of the work is a big YuriFan.
** Besides probable pairing between the protagonists, the series also has Sayaka as the canonical SchoolgirlLesbians with her open crush on Kirari.
** Rare for this manga, two male characters also show some of this, with Ibara's devotion to Rin having similar, though less romantic, undertones to Sayaka's devotion to Kirari.

** Thoughts about how Sumeragi took away someone else's nails as a payment for a loss, may not be very pleasant. It gets worse after the Jabami begin to fantasize about the pain and bleeding after removing the nails on the hands and feet.
** In the fourth episode it is implied that if a schoolgirl has too much debt, then the school board makes for them a "plan of life", which causes them to marry influential businessmen and politicians in exchange for paying off their debts. In particular, they even planned at what age Saotome and Jabami should give birth to children.
** Ikeshima's interrogation and punishment rooms looks like a TortureCellar. It seems that at one point we can even notice badly washed up traces of blood...

* {{OT3}}: While not as popular due to the fandom's rampant preference for w|w couples than any other, some people do try to fit Suzui in the Mary/Yumeko ship.
* ParanoiaFuel: The disclosure of the fact that [[spoiler: Yumeko's sister lives in a university hospital and potentially has some strong psychological trauma]] is quite disturbing. She also creates paper cranes that in Japanese culture can mean hope for getting rid of the inevitable. [[spoiler: Given how screwed up the Hundred Devouring Families are, the family that Yumeko and her sister are presumably are part of it, one might think that she might caught to their families' madness and got on the unfortunate side.]]
* SugarWiki/SheReallyCanAct: Participation in this anime markedly raised respect for Saori Hayami as a VoiceActor, as she demonstrated her talent in the PlayingAgainstType and sharp changes in the character's voice in contrast to her traditionally somewhat monotonous TypeCasting.

** [[spoiler: Midari Ikishima gouging her left eye herself to pay off her debt, even Kirari (who unlike us viewers, watch it in front of her) got shocked for a while in the manga.]]
** [[spoiler: Itsuki Sumergi pulls off her fingernails with her teeth to show off her determination to win against Manyuuda.]]
** [[spoiler: Ikishima first gets an orgasm with all the details from the idea that Yumeko can kill her, and then in a state of hysteria professes her love for her.]]

* ToughActToFollow: Zigzagged with Kakegurui Twin, Maeri is a decent protagonist in her own and the games written here are a step up compared to the original. The art, however, is significantly weaker compared to Naomura.
* UncannyValley: Kawaru Natari, the Japanese Hollywood star introduced in chapter 50 looks a bit less like a human than anyone else introduced so far, even for the floating art style of the manga. She looks more like a porcelain doll than a human, specially her eyes, which are drawn in a different style than everyone else's, even when the art is still in it's "standard manga art" mode.
* UnintentionallySympathetic: We are clearly shown that Yuriko is an inveterate swindler and sadist who enjoys the fact that she gives hope to desperate people, and then humiliates them even more. However, she becomes a little more sympathetic when we learn that she uses it to protect innocent girls in her club from becoming house pets.
* TheWoobie: It's hard not to sympathize with Tsubomi after it turns out that her classmates used to abuse her so often, cutting her hair or forced her to undress for guys, that she turned into EmotionlessGirl.

** Despite the fact that classmates mock Mary, and the school council even wanted to marry her with adult man, we still see that she is full of strength and even ready to laugh with pleasure at her opponents in games.
** Yumemi during the gamble against Kawaru Natari , in which it has become more and more strongly implied that she doesn't have what it takes to become an actress, let alone to achieve her dream, and even as a singer, she might be only so-so, coasting on her idol popularity. She isn't reacting well to these realizations as well.
* JustHereForGodzilla: Most of the first viewers were attracted to the adaptation thanks to the CastFullOfCrazy and a very strong LesYay between Jabami and the rest of the female cast.

** While it definitely had a fair share of people who are love obsessed, [[spoiler: with the notable ones being Midari Ikishima (towards Yumeko) and ironically, Sayaka Igarashi (towards Kirari)]], it is not a show where you can find yanderes.
** Despite having a gorgeous female cast that has a deliberate LesYay towards each other, readers will also be in a surprise with how much Fanservice is applied in this manga, [[spoiler: an average chapter of an ecchi manga would have an equal amount of standard Fanservice chapters than the entire arc of Yumeka versus the Student Council combined]].

** Most of the emotional reactions of the Jabami become such, as the scene in the second episode, where she grabs own crotch and begins to sweat profusely, biting her finger after thinking about the bad orders in this school.

** Saori Hayami saying "you piece of shit" in the third episode.
** She in the idol singer costume in episode 9 looks both sexy and silly.
** Yumeko literally gets an incredibly hammy orgasm after Suzui gives her his support and takes the game into her own hands.
* NarmCharm: Extravagant opening and eccentric directing with a bunch of quirky reaction faces quickly translate the adaptation into a category of this.

There are also those who like him for being a cool {{Woobie}}, based on your view of Rin.

** In the same episode, Jabami quite bluntly says that a person who does not try to change his position for the better, especially when he has such a chance, deserves his present bad position.
** Episode 10 makes the message that people in any case have to sacrifice something to achieve some great results. Even if the risk is very dangerous and in case of failure can bring you much grief, this is the price you have to pay for success.

** First of all with the fans of ''LightNovel/TheIrregularAtMagicHighSchool'', who view Yumeko as the EvilTwin of Miyuki because of their very similar appearance and Creator/SaoriHayami as common VoiceActor, but the fully opposite personalities. Similar settings in the form of an ElaborateUniversityHigh and GreyAndGrayMorality, also helps this.
** There are also the fans of ''Yuri!!! on Ice'' since Studio MAPPA produced the HoYay-laden anime last year and now produced another show, this time full of LesYay.
* GrowingTheBeard: The story starts to improve after the writer decided that this storyline will be focused on the characters that gamble during the gamble against Ikishima, which helps as the writer would focus on more complex games & strategies for Kakegurui Twin.

* AudienceAlienatingPremise: A work where most of the characters often make AxCrazy expressions with a very cynical morale obviously will not please all viewers. Moreover, due to the fact that the studio was previously known for quite serious works, many of its old fans pushed this show away because of its obvious NarmCharm.

* AntiClimax: Episode 12, [[spoiler: where even with the input of the original author didn't stop it from being a seemingly basic game that ends up in a draw]].

** The OP of the anime, directed by Sayo Yamamoto, especially deserves a mention, with the jazz music, colorful visuals, and 6 volumes worth of references in a minute and a half sequence. To the point that it is the Mother's Basement [[note]]Who is not a huge fan, by the way[[/note]] quickly [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkbpNu0xDcA discussed about it in under a month]].
* ClicheStorm: Intentionally, then to use most tropes for StealthParody and DeconstructorFleet. This is especially noticeable in the example of Yumeko, who is AxCrazy and MemeticMolester under the guise of the maximally stereotyped YamatoNadeshiko {{Ojou}}.
* DarknessInducedAudienceApathy: A gloomy and sexualized world where you can find literally just one good character, while every other characters has at least an AxCrazy scene? Yumeko especially indulges in this, being the main character that acts more like the BigBad.

** Is Yumeko Jabami an insane and cynical monster that will go to any immoral actions, if there is excitement in it, or is she just a ManipulativeBastard with a cold mind that masterly manages to manipulate people and punish scammers? Or even, is she, even if only in her mind, a NiceGirl trying to share her orgasmic love for gaming with her friends because she thinks everyone would feel the same thrill?
** Another source of Yumeko's gambling addiction is to provide support for her sister, whose locked up in an mental asylum.

** At one point during the war game, Rin does not include Ibara in some information, making him lie involuntarily and ignores his concern at the moment, later on however, it's revealed that Rin had a gamble under covers to make sure that, no matter what happened, that he and Ibara were safe. Does that means that Ibara is right to trust Rin and even though he is dishonest, Rin would never harm his ChildhoodFriend, or is that Rin simply making sure that someone that is useful to him sticks by his side?

A year later because of the popularity, Gangan Joker permitted the writer to create a spin-off featuring her. The result? She won the first popularity poll (compared to Jabami who placed 5th).

* ChewingTheScenery: Suzui in the live-action series, due to Mahiro Takasugi's portrayal that makes him a very different character from the original. Somehow found him trying to prevent Yumeko gambling in ridiculous odds in the manga annoying, in the early episodes, you will utterly loathe him in the live-action to the point why Jabami even bother to stick with him given his obnoxiousness in the games.

** Nanami's restored faith in herself and confidence at the end of the Indian Poker game.
** While Itsuki now [[spoiler:essentially owns Kaede's life]], she appears to handle it with the utmost care, due to still caring for him greatly. The Election Arc shows she regularly visits him in the hospital and brings snacks.
** Most of the "Logical Girl" chapter, in which it's all but stated that [[spoiler:Sayaka's feelings for the president are reciprocated]].
** Suzui and Mary fighting for [[spoiler:Yumeko's life]] in the game against Miyo and Miri, specially how Mary rushes there as soon as she hears about it to help.
** While it's something general, Yumeko's respect for her enemies is noteworthy. She (mostly) doesn't boast about her victories, tortures them more after the game and considers most of them her friends. In the end of the Choice Poker, she even suggests for Itsuki that the thing to do upon seeing [[spoiler:her opponent utterly defeated and in shame]] is to commend each other for a battle well fought and appreciate the beauty of someone who gave it their all in a game.

* AwesomeMoment:
** Nanami betting against Jun, to stand up against him and take revenge for everything he made her go through. [[spoiler:It's even better when this bet plays into Yumeko and Mary's plan, with implications this caused Jun to become a house pet]].
** Yumeko and Mary's plan in the Indian Poker Game [[spoiler:playing Jun like a fiddle, as they switched the values of their chips without him noticing. He essentially spent the game chasing after Yumeko's chips (which he believed to be worth 31 Million a piece, when they actually were worth 5 Million), essentially making it impossible for him to play the game right]].
** Itsuki betting everything against Kaede in the Choice Poker game. Everything as in [[spoiler:the winner of the next game would basically own the loser and decide a life plan for them]].

* JerkassWoobie: Despite the fact that classmates mock Mary, and the school council even wanted to marry her with adult man, we still see that she is full of strength and even ready to laugh with pleasure at her opponents in games.
