* IdiotPlot: The film is kicked off by Superman deciding to take *the entire Justice League* to invade Apokalips with no escape plan, no backup plan, no strategy aside from charging Darkseid head-on, no scouting or advance party of any kind, and not spotting the obvious trap of Darkseid warping into the League's space to deploy all his strongest troops on useless planets in plain view of the League to lure them out. * AuthorsSavingThrow: One point of contention in the earlier movies was how Damian Wayne was able to defeat guys who should realistically be stronger and more skilled than him, up to and including Batman himself. In this movie, [[spoiler:a brainwashed Batman beats down Damian, admits he was holding back and that he let Damian win in the past, and establishes himself without a shadow of a doubt as Damian's superior in combat.]]

* BrokenBase: Either the film is an EvenBetterSequel and an awesome conclusion to the DCAMU for the various risks it takes such as [[spoiler:most of the cast being non-Leaguers/non-Titans, allowing them to take the spotlight instead]] or is an edgefest that disservices beloved characters by giving them overly violent and unceremonious deaths/fates, sealed with a ResetButton EndingAversion.

* EndingAversion: The entire Animated Universe ends with a PyrrhicVictory [[spoiler:as most of the heroes are dead, insane, or crippled and the Earth left near-inhospitable]]. This leads to Constantine [[spoiler:convincing Flash to go back in time and prevent the tragedy from happening, which will change the entire timeline]]. Many fans feel that this makes the entire DCAMU not worth watching or getting invested in.

* WhatDoYouMeanItsNotForKids: The movie earns its '''hard R''' rating with some truly gory deaths and even an f-bomb, almost like a horror movie, despite starring Superman, Batman and other heroes.

* WhatAnIdiot:
** Superman's invasion plan (which can basically be summarized as "take the heavy hitters, show up at Darkseid's front door, and kick his ass") was poorly thought out. While the invasion largely failed because of the presence of the Paradooms, which the Justice League were unaware of, and Darkseid [[spoiler:monitoring their briefing through Cyborg's eye]], the fact that no one seriously objected to such a simple plan, with the only contingency being [[spoiler:compelling an unwitting John Constantine to run away and ''eventually'' magic up a solution]], is laughable. Even if it was doomed to fail, Superman should have at the very least sent spies and gather intelligence before making the attack. What makes it it worse, is that Lex Luthor actually suggests sending an envoy first rather than just taking everyone to Apokolips!
** The entire attack on the North Sea Reaper. Although previous films established that the Bat-family has access to powerful weaponry and vehicles far more advanced than those of the military, the trio joins the fight with nothing but their most basic weapons. Unsurprisingly, they are quickly slaughtered by the Paradooms, and are unable to inflict any damage to the machine.
** Darkseid has the mean to brainwash the heroes and turn even deceased ones into mind-controlled superpowered cyborgs.\\

'''Instead''': He leaves most of the heroes for dead, even those whose bodies could be safely retrieved.

* StrangledByTheRedString: DC fans who had no opinion one way or another on any Raven ship found the Raven/Damian pairing to be uncomfortable and forced, and consider the development between them in previous installments to have been lackluster at best if they were attempting to justify making an entire movie focusing heavily on their relationship.

* TooBleakStoppedCaring: These films have always had trouble with making the heroes likable, and now we have those same heroes dying horribly in downright disturbing ways all throughout the film in addition to a lot of civilian death and general mayhem, not unlike Marvel's ''ComicBook/{{Ultimatum}}'' event. The hopelessness of the situation is so oppressive that it becomes difficult to care after a while. By the very end, [[spoiler: even with Darkseid and Trigon defeated, the Earth is doomed due to it stopping on it's axis and so many have died or been left horribly mutilated that Constantine has felt this in-universe. * AlternateCharacterInterpretation: There's a lot of ambiguity on what exactly [[spoiler: Lex Luthor]] is up to. He claims to have been feeding info to Lois since the beginning but his line after [[spoiler: the brainwashed Batman]] figures it out implies he might have been just hedging his bets by playing both sides. [[spoiler: Not that it saves him]].

** King Shark quickly garnered a large fandom due to the SignatureScene revealing he and Constantine used to date, and that their relationship [[AmicableExes ended on good terms.]]

* TheyCopiedItNowItSucks: While still acknowledging how it takes two years to put these movies together, some reviews have accused the film of trying to follow on the coattails of ''Film/AvengersInfinityWar'' and ''Film/AvengersEndgame'', in that the surviving heroes sought to recoup from the loss of their friends and allies to an unstoppable villain and band together to stop said villain. [[spoiler:Also, like with ''Endgame'', the heroes (or at least one of them in this case) [[SetRightWhatOnceWentWrong wants to try to fix everything via time travel]]]].

* EvilIsSexy: Lady Shiva [[spoiler: briefly]] returns in her curvaceous, leotard-wearing glory.

* EvenBetterSequel: This installment has been much more positively received than many of the DCAMU movies that came before it, with many reviewers praising the action sequences, animation, and performances. It is considered a worthy finale to the current DCAMU that manages to tie together many different elements of the universe- including the Suicide Squad, the Justice League and the Dark characters- into a massive, mostly satisfying CrisisCrossover. However, it did receive some criticism for its overly dark tone and for [[spoiler:ending the franchise with a CosmicRetcon]]. All that being said, it's still ''very'' controversial for many of the reasons listed on this page.

** Cyborg's final words being [[spoiler: "Suck it, bitches."]] was probably meant to be funny or triumphant. Instead, they comes off as awkward at best and juvenile at worst.
