* HesJustHiding: Some vociferous and heavily in-denial fans subscribe to a UsefulNotes/ConspiracyTheory that claims hide didn't really die and is still alive somewhere. [[Music/ElvisPresley This sounds familiar...]]

* FunnyAneurysmMoment: His songs "Drink or Die!!!" and "Goodbye" and the PV for "Pink Spider" are this so much that some fans see them as "suicide notes." Others see them as this.

* HarsherInHindsight: His song ''Oblaat.'' Not only did it have the above scene with hide sticking his neck through the noose, but the ''entire song'' was a slap at ApatheticCitizens and the "go along to get along/the nail that sticks up gets hammered down" aspect of Japanese culture combined with ignorance of the obvious. He would later ''die'' as a partial result of his brother/manager and others close to him ''being exactly like this'' in regard to their apathy and ignorance of everything related to his alcoholism and likely drug abuse.

* HoYay: With Yoshiki, and unlike in most cases of fanservice or the like, it is pretty obvious that at some point there was an actual relationship and/or at least chemistry between the two.

* CrazyAwesome: hide was one of those rare people that could successfully use the LunaticLoophole in such a way that he could do absolutely crazy, dangerous, foolish, and even scarily violent things, often under the obvious influence of alcohol and/or drugs, onstage, offstage, and everywhere, and somehow not only ''get away with it,'' but become a MemeticBadass for doing it.

* BaseBreaker: Hiroshi or Yoshiki, depending on whose side of the BrokenBase below that you happen to fall upon. Many Yoshiki fans are NOT huge fans of Hiroshi, and Hiroshi and the people with the most hardcore belief that Hiroshi was right in suing Yoshiki detest Yoshiki.
* BrokenBase: Some Music/XJapan fans want to see him kept front and center of Music/XJapan. Other Music/XJapan fans either do not or don't like the constant usage of imagery and music connected to him.
** A BrokenBase also exists in regard to the hide estate itself, between Yoshiki and hide's brother Hiroshi, in regard to how hide should be memorialized and how his image and name and music should be used. Hiroshi sued Yoshiki and Music/XJapan for 200 billion yen over their use of hide's image, and Yoshiki countersued claiming damages from Hiroshi and Headwax, Inc. A judge finally decided that Hiroshi had filed a FrivolousLawsuit, and in turn Hiroshi withdrew the suit.

* TheWoobie: '''You wouldn't friggen believe it'''. Hide's woobie status can compare next to Yoshiki, Toshi, Taiji, and Pata, although he can lean towards JerkAssWoobie / IronWoobie considering how much he was able to put up with for so many years, as well as constantly lashing out as people who wanted to help him.

* SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic: Pick a hide live. Any tour, any song. Seriously. Nearly everything has at least one part that can be considered SugarWiki/AwesomeMusic.

* FandomBerserkButton:
** DO NOT claim that hide was murdered by Yoshiki. Not only will you hit the FandomBerserkButton and seen as a {{troll}} or ConspiracyTheorist, you will likely start off a round of InternetBackdraft that no one wants to ever see again.
** Close behind it, don't claim that hide killed himself to punish Yoshiki for loving/having sex with/being friends with/being attracted to Toshi, or similarly, that he killed himself out of despairing that he could never win Yoshiki from Toshi. Doing so will at best get you seen as a YaoiFangirl and ConspiracyTheorist, and at worst a {{troll}}, and if you do so around anyone who's been in the fandom from before TheNewTens, you have a very good chance of restarting some InternetBackdraft and/or being instantly deleted or banned to prevent it.
** Claiming he ''singlehandedly'' broke up Music/XJapan isn't as likely as any of the above to lead to a raging FlameWar, but it will likely get you a justified lecture on the actual history of the matter (e.g. that the breakup was due to ''everyone'') and seen as a clueless newbie, with your being considered a troll if you continue to claim it was all his fault.

* CrowningMusicOfAwesome: Pick a hide live. Any tour, any song. Seriously. Nearly everything has at least one part that can be considered CrowningMusicOfAwesome.

* FandomBerserkButton: DO NOT claim that hide was murdered by Yoshiki. Not only will you hit the FandomBerserkButton and seen as a {{troll}} or ConspiracyTheorist, you will likely start off a round of InternetBackdraft that no one wants to ever see again.

** Defending or being an unquestioning supporter of Hiroshi Matsumoto in certain places.
** For anyone who is not in the small group of people that believe it, the [[ElvisLives "hide is still alive"]] theory.

* FanNickname: "Pink Spider," bestowed on hide by [[Music/YoshikiHayashi Yoshiki]].

* HeteronormativeCrusader: According to some accounts, Hiroshi's legal fighting against Yoshiki was motivated by this as much as money: that he was angry hide had left/wanted to leave ''anything'' to someone other than a "real" wife, who could never be considered part of the family, saw Yoshiki owning anything of hide's as illegitimate and an affront, and that even if Yoshiki and hide were JustFriends it looked "bad" and needed to be stopped.

* SuspiciouslySimilarSong: "What's Up Mr. Jones" is this to "Drain," hide's last XJapan song. That said, he owned the music so he just had to change the lyrics...

* {{Transgender}}: hide possibly could have been a male to female transgender person, and possibly alluded to this onstage and offstage. It depends on whether hide's body disgust was a result of a FreudianExcuse and bulimia, or this, and upon whether the comments made in the interviews were serious or in jest. Since neither are or ever will be known, this article and many others stick with male pronouns - but the possibility is definitely arguable. Since aside from his issues with his chest and his dislike for showing off his crotch as much as the rest of the bands he was in, he otherwise seemed to be okay with a male body and male pronouns and similar, it was more likely that he was ''bigender,'' as in identifying both as male and female and okay as either, as opposed to seeking actual transition or an entirely female identity.

* VindicatedByHistory: In regard to the metal community, in that as his works became more and more known globally, that he isn't only recognized as an iconic popstar (an image he himself felt trapped in), but has earned slow recognition, especially with the Zilch works and his last track that would later become the backbone of Music/XJapan's ''IV,'' as one of the premiere innovators of his time (and even ahead of it) in HardRock / HeavyMetal.

** In the PerformanceVideo for Oblaat, he posed sticking his head through a noose and playing with it. In the Misery PV, he was "hanging" from a television tower. [[EroticAsphyxiation This later]] [[DudeNotFunny became very sad in retrospect.]]

* JumpedTheShark: His estate as a CashCowFranchise may have done this, what with Hiroshi Matsumoto licensing a pop cover of "Pink Spider" by KodaKumi - which only served to enrage a lot of hide fans for its production value and obvious mercenary intent.

* UnfortunateImplications: The LEMONED shop sells towels... while his death involved choking himself with a towel and a doorknob.

At one point he called fans who were hurting other fans out on his blog, but the worst FanDumb began to grow after he died. There are the fans who deny things he did on stage or on camera in an attempt to make him fit a "good angel" image and/or try to place him into a Christian framework (which is entirely antithetical to almost ''anything'' he was about in life), and the fans that bash him for [[MisBlamed things he did not actually do or say]]. Also, any discussion of hide's death and the circumstances around it can light up some of the worst InternetBackdraft to ever flare across wherever you are.

* FanDumb: Ironically, hide attracted more FanDumb after his death than during his career.
