Moved Spiritual Successor from mainspace.

Added DiffLines:

* SpiritualSuccessor: The game is one to the Privateer spinoff of the Wing Commander series, also developed by Chris Roberts.
** , created by well-known Elder Scrolls modder Trainwiz, is currently under development. It's also a successor to his extremely weird Freelancer mod, v/Lancer.

* Shipping: Done in fanfiction as a reaction to the lack of romance between Trent and Juni.

* TearJerker: Walker's HeroicSacrifice to help Juni, Trent and Jacobi escape from Alaska. He goes out by destroying two Liberty battleships to break their blockade.
-->Marcus: Jun'ko! We'll all die if we stay here! You've gotta get the President to safety!
-->Juni: Walker, what are you talking about?
-->Marcus: I have a large quantity of gravimetric mines onboard, enough for both of these battleships. I just need to get close enough.
-->Juni: You'll never survive that!
-->Marcus: I know. It's what has to be done, the President is the only thing that matters now. Get her outta here.
-->Juni: There has to be another way.
-->Marcus: No. There isn't. Now get out of here or you'll be killed too.
-->Juni: Don't do this!
-->Marcus: Charges are active.
-->Juni: WALKER!
-->Marcus: Goodbye, Jun'ko! Win this one for me. (The Utah rams Battleship Texas, destroying both and also Battleship Arizona in the subsequent explosion)
-->Juni: NO!

These aren't YMMV tropes. Moving.

* CrutchCharacter: The Anubis-class Very Heavy Fighter in the singleplayer campaign. It is by far the best ship available during the story mode and also the cheapest.
* ExecutiveMeddling: Many of Digital Anvil's projects were killed when they were bought by Microsoft, because MS wanted them to focus more exclusively on Freelancer. The original opening trailer was also significantly altered, removing the scene in which [[spoiler:the Nomads blow up Sol some time after the Alliance's Colony Ships warped to Sirius.]]

* Shipping: Done in fanfiction as a reaction to the lack of romance between Trent and Juni.
* StrawFeminist: Zigzagged with the Golden Chrysanthemums. On the one hand, they are an all-female organization whose stated intention is to overthrow the current Kusari government and establish a matriarchy. On the other hand, they maintain a very close relationship with the masculine Blood Dragons. It's unclear whether this is just a long-running EnemyMine setup or a true alliance. On the other other hand of this mutant monstrosity, the G.C. also require all their members to get addicted to Cardamine and treat their founder as an explicitly religious prophet.
* SavedFromDevelopmentHell: Freelancer was released 4 years after being announced for the first time, with many of the hyped-up features missing. However, the resulting game was still good enough to be enjoyable.

Juni.

* MostAnnoyingSound:
** Police cargo-scan announcements.
** Being outside the ArbitraryMaximumRange for the automated docking system:
--->"Dock. Dock denied. Destination is too far."
** Anything Mission Commission says -- at least, when heard for the 107th time.
** Oddly, "Hull breach imminent" is not this, since before it could possibly repeat you either use Nanobots or blow up.
** You would think you can at least get from Point A to Point B with a minimum of fuss, except you get very well acquainted with this phrase:
--->"Trade lane disrupted."

Added DiffLines:

* ScrappyMechanic: Although trade lane disruptions by criminals theoretically add a nice bit of atmospheric action, in practice they get old very quickly.

* ScrappyWeapon: Missiles are laughably useless in that they don't track properly and don't deal the damage they should. You're better off taking another energy weapon over them.

* ScrappyWeapon: Missiles Standard missiles are laughably useless in that they don't track properly and don't deal the damage they should. You're better off taking another energy weapon over them. This is in stark contrast to Stalker missiles, which have much better tracking and are useful for dealing the killing blow on heavily damaged enemies while freeing up reactor output for energy weapons far above the carrier ship's recommended level.

* NightmareFuel:
** During the Liberty section of the game, most locations (planets or Space Stations) are green or friendly to you, and red is reserved for enemy fighters. Then, when Trent and Juni are framed and have to make their escape from Manhattan, everything save for Juni's fighter () is marked in red. Including Newark Station, Trenton Outpost, all of the trade lanes, and Planet Manhattan itself. What was once the safest place in the universe for you is now the most dangerous. And you're stuck in a small, weak single fighter against a huge Liberty Navy fleet that promptly starts to open fire on you from all directions. Essentially, it's the opening battle against the Order fighters, only inverted against you.
** The Edge worlds are as far as one can go from civilization and reside within a Sickly Green Nebula, which makes it a creepy part of Sirius to begin with. Then comes the knowledge of Nomad presence in the area and that their homeworld is not far away.
