* ReplacementScrappy: To some fans, the band lost all its magic by getting rid of Ross Childress. To these fans, Joel Kosche and Jess Triplett are poor substitutes, placeholders only, and the band can be clearly marked as going downhill after Ross's departure. Considering the circumstances under which Ross left, the idea of him ever returning is a pipe dream, but you'll still hear these fans dedicated to the idea that Ross should return. One of them shouted these sentiments to Ed Roland at a concert, earning a tongue-lashing from the usually cool, calm and collected Ed.

* ImpossiblyTackyClothes: Ed's current getups. He seems to be going for the most garish looks he can get away with.

* {{Narm}}: On the first four or five recordings, Ed Roland had a tendency to add a "W" sound to the first word of almost any line that began with a vowel. It sounded like he was either inserting ad-libbed "Whoa..." or "Well...", such as "She doesn't care/what the prophets say/w'anymore" or "w'all the words that I need to hear". Whatever the case, it made for some unintentional comedy, especially as one line that began with the words "I believe" became "Why believe that love comes round and round."

He got better at not doing that around the point of "Blender", but one occasionally still slips in.

* NotChristianRock: The band will go to great lengths to deny that they include religious themes in their music. However, with the possible exceptions of ''Dosage'', ''Blender'' and ''Youth'', the lyrical content of some songs wouldn't be out of place at a Christian youth concert, including "God is always your strength; the only strength that you know", as well as "Hymn for My Father", which is just what it sounds like. It doesn't help their denial any that Ed and Dean Roland are preacher's kids and that the founding members of the band met in church. Roland says that growing up steeped in religious terminology heavily influenced his writing, and that it doesn't go further than that.
* SignatureSong: "Shine", of course.
** To lesser extents, "December" and "The World I Know".

* EarWorm: "December", "Run", "Hollywood", "Shine", to name a few.
** "Fuzzy" has an incredibly catchy tune and whistle.
** If you know the song, all one has to do is sing "Precious declaration says yours is yours and mine you leave alone now" and you will automatically think, or even hum, "Ah-hah, ah-hah, aaaaaah".

* ChristianRock: The band will go to great lengths to deny that they ever were this, and recent efforts by them have used progressively less religious imagery. However, their first three albums have songs that wouldn't be out of place at a Newsboys concert, and in fact have been covered by Christian Rock artists. Phrases like "Come on Gabriel, blow your horn" "Can I ask you just to light my way", "Giving me breath of your mercy", etc. have been used by them. This is especially prevalent on tracks like "Love Lifted Me", "In a Moment", "Reach", "All", "The World I Know", "Collection of Goods", "Reunion", "Maybe", "Forgiveness", "Giving" and "In Between". It doesn't help them any that Ed and Dean Roland are preacher's kids and that the founding members of the band met in church. Roland says that growing up steeped in religious terminology heavily influenced his writing, and that it doesn't go further than that.
