* IdiotPlot: In a world that is revealed later on to be advanced enough to have ''successful'' genetic engineering of {{Half Human Hybrid}}s, no one in Melida's family ever suggested simply doing a ''paternity test'' to confirm her lineage, resulting in the need to hire Kufa Vampir instead of a normal tutor and the rest of the plot. Presumably, her grandfather would rather she be mysteriously killed than confirmed to be illegitimate. [[spoiler: Although it makes a ''lot'' more sense when you learn the heavy implication that the reason why is because noble families like hers would rather her be killed than be publicly known as born powerless or inheriting a "common" class to their respective families.]]

* {{Narm}}: All over the place. Aside from the ham-fisted character names (Vampyr? Angel?), there's a stand-out example in the first episode, when Melida is harrassed by Pumpkin-Heads. One of them threatens to cut her hair, and she tearfully begs it not to, because it's the only thing she has to remember her mom by (both were blondes). Aside from the fact that that the Pumpkin-Head has no real reason to target Melida's hair like this, and Melida pleading with a monster that can't talk, the implication that Melida will forget about her mother if her hair is cut over looks two prominent facts: 1. The Pumpkin-Head was seemingly only taking off a few inches. 2. Hair ''grows back''. The emotional sincerity the scene is delivered with just makes it all the funnier.

Up To Eleven is a defunct trope

* SoBadItsGood: This work is pretty much the culmination of every trope in the {{Chuunibyou}} and FantasticRomance genre ran UpToEleven for guys and girls respectively. Not that it stops people from actually enjoying it for playing them straight.

* TheyWastedAPerfectlyGoodPlot: The background setting itself. A CrapsackWorld where it's AlwaysNight and humanity has to live in a giant tree which houses various lamps containing their {{Small Secluded World}}s. A lingering corruption lies beyond the tree that turns its victims ranging from {{Monster Clown}}s to vampires. This would be a legitimately good GothicHorror series, right? Nope. The series mainly focuses on adventures in a WizardingSchool and political conspiracies with occasional breaks to show several girls fighting over the main character. In other words, plotlines with only the thinnest connection to the GothicHorror setting. Considering how most of the main characters are expected to fight the corruption for the sake of humanity's continued existence, time will tell if this plot element will be properly utilized in the future.

*{{Moe}}: Melida is an adorable little girl who does her best to become a powerful knight yet is still vulnerable in many endearing ways. It is no wonder that Kufa was moved by protective feelings.

A Moral Event Horizon is one act that establishes a character is beyond redemption. It is not to be used generically like that.

* MoralEventHorizon: The nobility of Assassin's Pride relentlessly persecutes and hounds on Melida, to the point of nearly ruining her life, either refusing to believe she can actually use mana or use her for their own selfish agenda. After this, no one will feel sorry when Kufa kicks their rears.

That last sentence is very misleading, seeing how this work isn't a romantic comedy.
