** Subverted for the Crais, who are anthropomorphic sharks. The female Crais' gills are on their chest, which makes sense as they don't get squeezed by a growing child during pregnancy. ** Swords and other melee weapons also beat long range weapons in Cyantian wars. The Cyantians do happen to be PettingZooPeople who can avoid gunfire far better than a human could. So staying at range is harder than having a melee weapon ready.
