** Tolkien also makes a point that all his heroes are heroic not for their skill in killing, but for smaller deeds that they prefer themselves; The Hobbits are able to resist the temptation of the Ring longer than any other race because they only love the quiet and simple life of good food, good drink and tending to gardens, something the Ring cannot offer them.
