** I strongly disagree, this makes very little sense honestly. The psychic powers in here are notedly different than how they are in Akira, to say nothing of how malevolent psychics can get. But you might not be entirely wrong, I think From The New World is likely the universe that comes into existence as a result of Tetsuo's defeat, because the 'power level' of this setting could easily contain someone like Tetsuo without a problem...as well as partially explain their penchant for devestation.

The psychic powers in here are notedly notably different than how they are in Akira, Akira (for one thing, it doesn't appear that pills are needed to keep their power under control), to say nothing of how malevolent psychics can get. But you might not be entirely wrong, get in general. [[WMG: Maria [[spoiler: killed herself and Mamoru so that Kamisu 66 wouldn't be in danger of being destroyed by Mamoru.]]]]
Maria is the one who read the story about the boy who killed himself and the fiend in class, and Shin Sekai Yori is hardly above this kind of foreshadowing. Not to mention that it's brought up that Mamoru was [[spoiler: possibly in danger of becoming a fiend,]] and so it's possible that he could have [[spoiler: become more dangerous away from his support system.]] Maria, who has a strong sense of protection and nurturing, would have [[spoiler: put the good of the community above the good of Mamoru and herself]]. It's possible that she [[spoiler: did this in a way that killed herself and Mamoru, but left the baby Akki alive. Or, that the queerats helped her in order to get ahold of Akki even more easily.]]

[[WMG: Psychokinesis either makes violent impulses harder to ignore or leads to more intense violent urges in humanity]]
All the rulers of the Holy Cherry Blossom Empire were obviously psychopaths, and the opening scene set 1,000 years ago shows the humans with psychokinesis attacking regular humans- not even mentioning Boy A, who used his psychokinesis to rape 19 women and murder 17 of them. Additionally, when Satoru has to attack the rogue queerat colony, he seems to be enjoying himself (and this is explicitly stated in the novel). Rijin, the priest who had found the children talking to the False Minoshiro, also killed roughly 1,000 members of the rogue queerat colony according to the novel's narration, and didn't seem to have a problem with it. Besides that, the fact that making a love-filled society focused on helping other humans and not learning about violence was apparently still not enough to prevent murder, to the point that scientists created the Death Feedback.

*Not explicitly Jossed or confirmed by the end of the series, but both Shun and Tomiko speculate on the group's mental resilience and the unconscious mind. Slightly implied that he only became a Karma Demon in the first place because he knew the purpose of the Sacred Barrier, so it didn't work anymore.

* Errr...Jossed, as far as we all know. She had no known ties to the queerats, died in the attack, and impressed on Saki that it's extremely important to never 'ever' let Akki or Gouma develop in human society. Plus several elements were individually Jossed.

In {{Warhammer 40K}}, you kill psychics. In From the New World, psychics kill you. In the Warhammer 40K universe, the vast Imperium needs the daily sacrifice of thousands of psykers every day to power the Astronomicon which acts as a psychic beacon to send its starships throughout the Imperium via warp. Though disciplined psykers are used for various functions in the Imperium, they are generally feared by Imperial citizens due to their connection to the Ruinous Powers of Chaos. Thus, psykers that are too weak-willed to control themselves are often sacrificed to power the Astronomicon.

In the New World, psychics manage to conquer modern human civilization and [[spoiler:eventually turn their descendants into animals by combining their genes with naked mole rats so they wouldn't be even considered human anymore.]] What the psychics would do to normal people, it's the same thing normal people would do to them. They would try to dominate each other and do horrible things to each other as well.

The esper-on-human violence shown in this series' "modern world" flashbacks was a result of Minamoto and BABEL's failure to prevent Kaoru's defection to Kyousuke and the esper-human war, leading to the worldwide collapse of civilization and the rise of the Slave Dynasties and the other civilizations of the "500 years ago" period.

[[WMG: Shun's downfall is caused by his exposure to the false minoshiro]]
Although all his friends were exposed to the explaination of humanity's past from the False Minoshiro, it could be that he was the most traumatized (Saki being the least). He became a Karma Demon because he was devastated by the true human nature and he can no longer repress his unconscious mind from controlling his PK.

She therefore has allowed queerat society to develop by leaps and bounds under Squealer without pushing back at all. For what it's worth, I find it entirely possible that she gave them the false Minoshiro so that they could develop technologically. When hostilities inevitably break out with the humans, however, she leads the human society in condemning the queerats as despicable, so that they won't wonder what's going on and instead throw themselves into the fight. But all this isn't enough: a concentration of trained cantus-users is still likely to be able to defeat any number of non-cantus users.
