%%* CameraScrew: The game is known for having a capricious and difficult to control camera system that frequently snags on the geometry of levels, though ''DX'' slightly remedied it through adding the free camera option. It infamously started the trend of 3D Sonic games having subpar camera systems.

** The first section of Sonic's Twinkle Park has badniks inside go-karts that will attempt to ram into him.
** Knuckles' version of Casinopolis has the pirate enemies that explode into rings and only appear on the ships in the upper part of the level.

* PlotTunnel: There are certain points in each character's story where they will be locked into a certain adventure field, and cannot leave to go to another. Most notably is the train strike that prevents the player from traveling to the Mystic Ruins from Station Square, and vice versa. This is especially apparent in Sonic and Tails' stories, where the strike will keep the two separated and prevent them from meeting back up until later on in the story.

Savvy players may think to go to the Chao garden, which has teleporter pads leading to the other adventure fields. However, doing so during these points will reveal the teleporter pads have been disabled, preventing the player from doing exactly that.

** Final Egg with Sonic can be finished in under a minute. The first section of the game has no real glitches, however the second section can be bypassed by getting inside the rotating fan which will not deactivate the death box allowing you to finish it stupid early. The third and final section is the worst. You can spin dash through a nearby wall behind the spider elevator, sending you into complete darkness, however if you steer correctly, you'll send Sonic falling down onto the end platform and finishing the stage.

** However, it is just as often averted, somewhat confusingly. All characters present during a boss encounter fight the same boss in their story, even if another character already beat it in their story -- the most infamous example being Chaos 4, who must be fought by Sonic, Tails, ''and'' Knuckles.

* AnOddPlaceToSleep: Big lives in the Mystic Ruins jungle, in an open hut shaded by a single palm tree. His bed is shaped like a normal bed, but made out of wood. Behind the head of the bed is a rack where three of his rods hang. Under the bed is a very shallow storage area he's carved out, which he can access by merely pushing the bed to one side; the Power Rod upgrade is located here. To the left of the bed is a tree stump he uses as a table; an empty wooden bowl sits on it. Hanging above the bed is a lantern that is always lit, although it's unclear if the light is a flame, or Big has somehow managed to get some source of electricity to power it. In front of the foot of the bed is a small set of steps (five, to be exact) leading to a very shallow stream. And, to top it all off, next to the steps is a homemade '''mailbox'''. That's right. Big has a mailbox. Tails's workshop doesn't even seem to have a mail '''slot''' on the door, and it's located right next to the train station!
