* BalefulPolymorph: Sometimes the RNG hates you and polymorphs you into a different race. The Polymorph Rune does this by itself.
Changed line(s) 14,15 (click to see context) from:
* HolyHandGrenade: The Holy Rune. Gives you nothing but boons when eaten, gives Blessed status to weapons and armor removing curses and granting [[BlownAcrossTheRoom blessed strikes]]. When simply thrown at enemies it either gives a decapitating blessed strike or [[StuffBlowingUp blows them up]]. When thrown shines like a Light rune and gives a small shockwave when caught.

The game differs from the original being in a side-scrolling platformer, with the exception of jumping. Check out the official website [[http://redrogue.net/ here]]; there you'll find the official soundtrack, some places to play it online, a download link, the source code and even the .swf for your hosting/modding leisure.

* ActionBomb: Some enemies are carrying TNT and explode upon defeat. Sometimes the RNG altar will self-destruct for you.
* BackFromTheDead: The [[spoiler: Minion]] is resurrected by Death as [[spoiler:Husband]] if you bring the Amulet of Yendor to the Underworld. This happens to the Balrog if you put his face on either of you.
* BalefulPolymorph: Sometimes the RNG hates you and polymorphs you into a different race. The Polymorph Rune does this by itself.
* BoltOfDivineRetribution: Zeus' lightning makes a cameo as, well Lightning. A weapon forged of quickening that sends out bolts when thrown.
* DevelopmentGag: The names of some gear may be the usernames of the beta-testers from the forum this was developed in.
* ClingyMacguffin: There's always the chance of getting a cursed object. You cannot discard them once worn but they don't affect your undead minion.
* DungeonBypass: Barring single paths blocked by keys there's nothing really stopping you from just running to the next level.
* InterfaceScrew: The effects of a Confusion trap.
* {{Geas}}: There's always the chance of RNG giving you a pointless errand to fulfill.
* GoombaStomp: An important skill in combat is literally gaining the upperground on opponents to stun them and get extra hits in. Sometimes it can even [[BlownAcrossTheRoom blow them down the hallway]]. Enemies are just as likely to utilize this as you are.
* GroundhogDayLoop: [[spoiler:Due to @ feeding main character a Rune of Time.]] It's implied getting Amulet of Yendor will break it. [[spoiler:It doesn't.]]
* TheHunterBecomesTheHunted: [[spoiler:The balrog is the most powerful monster, and killed @. He ''runs like hell'' from you, constantly escaping to lower levels.]]
* JigsawPuzzlePlot: Nothing about the backstory or plot or why you're DungeonCrawling is given directly. There are bloody scrawls on the wall left by @ that you can read, and when you sleep your character will murmur a sentence or two. The story has to be inferred from these random snippets.
* MadGod: [[spoiler:RNG turns out to be this if you ascend without the Amulet of Yendor. After seizing it, he turns oceans into oatmeal porridge, everyone whose name starts with "s" into lead, and so on with its power.]]
* NoNameGiven: Our protagonist is simply known as "Rogue" until she ascends with the Amulet of Yendor, then she gains the name [[spoiler:Immortal]]. It is reflected upon the title screen and the log.
* NoticeThis: Treasure chests have a sparkly effect, pick-up items have a glowing outline. One can perform a radar-like search of the general area for traps and secret doors which when discovered glow red.
* RandomNumberGod: An actual deity within the game (named RNG) that the protagonist has a love/hate relationship with. Altars are randomly generated elements that when activated grant a random effect that can heal or hurt.
* ResurrectedForAJob: The Minion is the Rogue's Husband, mysteriously brought back by Death himself to assist the Rogue in her quest. [[spoiler: it turns out that he wanted the Amulet of Yendor]]
* ShoutOut: There are a few in item/enemy names and events. The most evident one is [[{{Franchise/Highlander}} the Quickening]] that occurs upon leveling up.
* StringyHairedGhostGirl: [[Literature/TheRing Sadako]] is one of the monsters you can face. She's appropriately dangerous.
* TeleportersAndTransporters: Portals and Teleports can are done by Runes, Traps or RNG. Notably weapons enchanted with teleport will randomly teleport out of your inventory and enchanted armor will randomly jump you around.
* VancianMagic: Magic is utilized through Runes found in treasure chests. Runes are limited in quantity and initially unknown until use by throwing, enchantment or eating. Each rune has a single initially weak effect that can be fortified and stacked through multiple castings.
* VisualPun: The RNG altars visually call to mind a roulette wheel. It's very appropriate.
