* ImmortalBreaker: As one of the original gods, and an intrinsic part of the world, Orochi could not be killed by normal means. In order to execute him, Amaterasu had the gods build an artifact that could suppress his divinity. [[spoiler:But when Sussano was ordered to execute him, he betrayed Amaterasu and killed the other gods instead.]]

** Orochi ''will'' destroy this world, as he has in every single AlternateTimeline. The only question is how long it will take, and whether Orochi will live through it to create his [[ToCreateAPlaygroundForEvil world of pure evil]]. Compromise is not an option since he despises and cannot stand the very existence of Amaterasu's world of love and law. If Orochi is killed, the miasma released from his corpse will corrode the world back to Aether. Even repeatedly [[SealedEvilInACan sealing]] or banishing Orochi will only delay the inevitable, since evil, greedy, TooDumbToLive mortals ''will'' ensure his return each time no matter what, even if it takes tens of thousands of years. If Orochi is free to act as he pleases, he will conquer the city of the gods, turn humans into monsters and let them torture their formerly fellow humans for fun, and eventually slay former GodEmpress Amaterasu to replace the old world with his new one.

* YouCantFightFate: Everything in this world is predestined. For all intents and purposes, everything that has happened, is happening, will happen, and even how this world will end has effectively been written down and set in stone. ScrewDestiny is absolutely impossible, as even your attempts to fight fate is you fulfilling your fate to begin with.

* BrokeYourArmPunchingOutCthulhu: Orochi is destined to destroy the Onmyoji world. In alternate timelines, Susanoo manages to kill Orochi, but that just results in Orochi's corpse release a miasma that corrodes the world down to Aether anyways. The best he can do is [[SealedEvilInACan seal Orochi]], but even if it takes millennia, Orochi will inevitably be released.

* JerkassGods: The gods ''used'' to love mortals, but under Tsukuyomi's influence, the ones that still do are a minority, with most of them now having no problem with exterminating mortals.

* CerebusSyndrome: Kickstarted by the [[WhamEpisode chapter]] with [[VengefulWidow Sakura-no-sei]]. [[spoiler: It becomes known to the heroes and the players that there's a BigBad who [[AllegedLookalikes looks like and smells like]] the hero out to destroy the city and the hero's life.]] Yay.

* ApocalypseHow: The Onmyōji world is divided into seven subworlds, six defined by the evil gods, and one defined by Amaterasu, the TopGod. Wanting to create a world of pure evil InTheirOwnImage and centered on himself, Orochi puts HumanityOnTrial in order to inflict catastrophic damage to the fabric of reality, [[spoiler:opening a gate to the evil gods and corrupting Amaterasu's world with [[ElementNumberFive Aether]], the fundamental essence used to define new worlds or destroy old ones. The aether spreads from Orochi's gate and under his influence becomes TheCorruption, darkening the land, destroying the {{Afterlife}}, and turning those within it's influence into monsters. With onmyōji spells barely able to slow the corruption down, refugees flee to places farther from the corruption, hoping to buy themselves time. Since most of the gods under Tsukiyomi apparently don't give a damn about what happens to mortals, they curse the gods for abandoning them, with only a few gods like Susanoo willing to light the way.]]

* OurDemonsAreDifferent: Demons are a diverse lot and are not of one race, but hundreds. Some were born demons, some fell, some are even former gods and buddhas. Demons are ''not'' AlwaysChaoticEvil, but plenty of them certainly are. All demons respect strength and are driven by a rebellious streak.

* CultureChopSuey: Crossed with AnachronismStew; while the original game isn't known for being highly accurate on either Heian history or culture counts, the MOBA game [[UpToEleven takes it a step further]] and ''throws accuracy out the window'', with the appearance of such things as UsefulNotes/{{Qipao}}, swimsuits, AncientEgypt sarcophagi and ''PunkRock''.

* RankInflation: Shikigami rarity run the gamut from N (Normal), to R (Rare), SR (Super Rare), and SSR (Super ''[[UpToEleven Super]]'' Rare). And then there's SP, which is supposedly short for ''[[TheLastOfTheseIsNotLikeTheOthers Special]]'', of all things.

* PowerCreep: Extremely prevalent, particularly with SSR shikigami. Shikis that were once top-tier and highly feared such as Yoto Hime, Ōtengu and Ibaraki Dōji find themselves massively overshadowed by even more powerful releases such as Tamamo-no-Mae and Onikiri, only for them to eventually become obsolete as well. If the most-recently released SSR isn't an absolute must-have, someone on the design team hasn't been doing their job right.

* HaveYouSeenMyGod: Amaterasu, TopGod and benevolent GodEmpress once reigned from Takama-ga-hara, city of the gods, with gods and mortals enjoying a close relationship. But after Orochi rebelled, and Sussanoo sabotaged his execution, part of the city collapsed, and the city mysteriously distanced itself from mortals. Takama-ga-hara gods that preferred the mortal world, and others that fell to it during the disaster, found themselves cut off from home. As far as anyone can tell, it is as if most of the gods have completely given up on mortals and stopped caring about what happens to them. At this point in time, the only remaining point of contact between Takama-ga-hara and the mortal world is Takama-ga-hara's emissary, Susabi, and even he doesn't have much to say besides the fact that Amaterasu has lost most of her power. The only Takama-ga-hara gods that are confirmed to be both healthy and still caring about the mortal realm are Miketsu, Enmusabi, and Suzuhikohime.

* HaveYouSeenMyGod: Amaterasu, TopGod and benevolent GodEmpress once reigned from Takama-ga-hara, city of the gods, with gods and mortals enjoying a close relationship. But after Orochi rebelled, and Sussanoo sabotaged his execution, part of the city collapsed, and the city mysteriously distanced itself from mortals. Takama-ga-hara gods that preferred the mortal world, and others that fell to it during the disaster, found themselves cut off from home. As far as anyone can tell, it is as if most of the gods have completely given up on mortals and stopped caring about what happens to them. In order to make her look like a hypocrite, Orochi reverse engineers the trial Amaterasu tried to execute him with to use it on the world. If by the standards of Amaterasu's own laws, the collective sins of the world outweigh the sins of Orochi, GodOfEvil, then the trial ritual will empower Ashura, Orochi's chosen executioner, to destroy the world, allowing Orochi to create a new world InTheirOwnImage. Even if Orochi himself planted the seeds, the sins of the old world outweigh Orochi's by a large margin, making an interruption of his trial ritual the only hope of preserving the old world.]]
