** Your standing tank uses lasers to charge up an energy bolt when you're not using any other weapons. These bolts are more powerful than your turbo shots. The upgraded Falcon of "Metal Combat" has 'treble' energy bolts, which charge for even longer and are even more powerful. Tornado can store charges for "super turbo shots", which are basically rapid fire energy bolts, up to ten! Alternatively Tornado can unleash all ten at once as a "hyper shot".
** "Metal Combat" introduces plasma bombs, which have to be charged but are more powerful than their standard counterparts.

** The V-System. It boosts your attack power, deflects all enemy bullets, and keeps the opponent centered, but continually drains your ST's energy until it reaches critical.
** The Neutron Beam is this as well, as it deals massive amounts of damage if it hits, but using it also puts your ST in critical. Interestingly, rival ST Viscount ''also'' gets a form of the Neutron Beam... complete with heavy damage and putting his ST in critical!

* FragileSpeedster: Siamang's top speed isn't even that impressive compared to some later standing tanks and it tends to stop moving when it attacks, making it vulnerable to bombs(too bad [[EarlyBirdBoss you're likely to only have one when you fight it]]), but it can change direction quickly to get out of your sight and attack several in rapid succession. And it's narrow body makes it relatively hard to hit(except, of course, with bombs).

In the second game hitting enemy weak points isn't quite as hard or important until you get to Griffin, a TimedMission where your shots will be deflected by his wings. You'll appreciate this lesson in more precises targeting since Viscount and it's shield follow immediately afterwards.
