Unlike RPG Maker, Wolf RPG Editor is free to download, although some have noted it is more difficult to navigate than RPG Maker unless you're an experienced user; another barrier is that the official website is only available in Japanese, so unless you're fluent in this language accessing tips and help with the program can be challenging. Wolf RPG Editor is only available for download onto [[UsefulNotes/MicrosoftWindows Windows]] (the same goes for games made with the program, as they have to be opened with .exe files), although there is software available that allows you to open the program and associated games on [[UsefulNotes/MacOS Mac]].

Despite its title, the program has been used to create non-role-playing games as well, much like RPG Maker, with HorrorVideoGames being particularly popular.

Wolf RPG Editor is a GameMaker program. Similar to UsefulNotes/RPGMaker, it enables users to easily create their own RolePlayingGames. It was developed by [=SmokingWOLF=] and first released in Japan on 24th December 1998. Velella Himmel (vgperson) and Jeffrey Casey (Widderune) provided an English translation. The latest English-language version is Wolf RPG Editor 2.24Z.
